Hey there - they all sound pretty awesome to me. Very musical, and its easy to imagine myself enjoying that music and never questioning the quality of the recording on any of the takes. Good fingers, good guitar, good brain orchestrating it all most likely. I found this thread because I just got mys...

Ok, looks like it's going to be a digital transfer by Mr. Toads, then mixing tomorrow night, most likely by me, to get it to the vinyl press in time for tour.

Anyone else wanna volunteer for the job?

here's some previous work by my band:

Hey all, Looking for a mix engineer in San Francisco or the East Bay with a 1/2" 8 track, or as a fallback, someone who can do a digital transfer for us to mix ourselves. Tonight or tomorrow. Someone else fell through and we need to get two mixes done . . . like . . . yesterday. email me: ruuderic [...

Since you're having difficulty in the frequency domain, try messing with the time domain using various compression/expansion techniques. Two things to try out, if you have the tools to do so. Try sidechaining the bass compressor so its keyed off the kick and mess around with the attack and release s...

I was just checking out that midibox stuff on my break at work, and I must say I was a bit intimidated. What was your experience building it? Is there a different config designed to be used by feet? I'm sure i can pull it off, I just wanted to get some kind of a clue what I'm getting myself into. Eric

Foot MIDI controller

So I'm thinking more and more that I'd like to trigger samples and synth patches while playing bass.

No Geddy Lee references please....

Does anyone know of a simple foot pedal sized midi keyboard I can buy? Or perhaps have a tip on building one?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Use the first day for getting sounds and sort of absorbing the vibe of the studio, get a lot of good takes on day 2, and on day 3 get what you missed on day 2. Hey, that's good advice! We need to start thinking about what exactly we expect to accomplish each day... and I think you're on the right t...

If only it were that simple!

Greg Saunier is a busy man. He'd probably mix it except his band is opening for radiohead all July and has about a million other things going on. As is it's hard to get ahold of him....

One thing I didn't mention:

We're still looking down the road at mixing, and we've been considering it as a separate part of the process. I think we're leaning towards spending 5-6 days in a studio with a large console and plenty of outboard gear. Not sure yet beyond that. Sometime in July probably.

Update

So there's news, for anyone who might have been curious. On May 15th we'll be going into a place called New Improved Recording in Oakland (newimprovedrecording.com), working with Eli Crews and Greg Saunier (deerhoof drummer) as engineers/producers. We'll be tracking to tape for 4 days, transfering t...

There's a UK cpmpany called Stonewood Audio making metal packs still. I think we're gonna get some of those.

The plastic clearcoms short out on us all the time lately, and it kills the whole system because of the voltage drop. Sucks.
