To hijack even further into the realm of tuning, there is of course no reason why electronic instruments need to be shackled to equal temperament anymore. Yamaha thought a bit ahead and included the ability to use a custom tuning in later-generation FM modules (buried of course deep within their tra...

Vintage DAW users?
Hi. I have just obtained a Digidesign Session 8 (the ancestor of the Digi 001, from the mid 90s). I'm currently scrounging for parts to get it running ( my computer is way too modern to handle this) but I was wondering if anyone out there using this or any similarly obsolete DAW setup: I've seen som...

Re: Korg DW8000 users?
Im very attached to mine, though I haven't played with an Esq-1 (I plan to get one next). I dont think its the most versatile synth since every patch still sounds like the Dw-8000 to me, but the sounds it has are good. While we are talking repairs: The display for the parameter value has started to ...

Re: siging through a tube marshall guitar amp???
I did it in my high school days, and the amp (JCM 900) survived. I think though, you might not get very good results: besides the excessive distortion and feedback, we never got it to sound lound enough to be intelligible: it was a dirt cheap mic, and maybe there was some kind of impedance problem. ...

Re: Confused by Little Labs IBP Phase thingy
Mr. Hoof (or whatever) - you posted some good links right as I was going to - sorry if this is redundant: I was looking at the manual (which amazes me in its detail), and basically its a pair of allpass filters. You guys that are talking about delay/comb filtering have the right idea, but what the a...

Re: dresden dolls
Have you guys seen them live yet? I had no idea who they were and somehow ended up at one of their shows in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, and was quite amazed. Very awesome, the songs.

Re: SX / Essex guitars
I got my little brother one for christmas (the two-humbucker strat copy). I think its an ok guitar especially for the price, but even my Squires are better guitars. What I liked about the guitar was that there were no big deficencies, the electronics were decently solid, sound ok, and are not noisy....

Re: any CARCASS fans here?
I too think Carcass was pretty cool, though I dont own any of their stuff yet. The early, more gridcore stuff interests me because its so over-the-top extreme, and the later stuff i think if it had come from any other band would be praised by the same people who like swedish metal. I esp like "Keep ...

Yes, please let us know if this guitar is cool or not if you look at one. Ive been thinking about getting one of their guitars for a while to replace my acoustic, but i keep getting distracted by cheap solidbody electrics.

Re: WTB: Fretless Spanish Acoustic
Im not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but Godin makes a nylon string / fretless guitar. http://www.godinguitars.com/godinmultnylonfretlessp.htm. Ive never used any of their stuff, but I think they've got a bit of a cult following among jazzers and the like.

Re: The "out of phase" sound
Amazing. I was about to post a thread of my own about this, after I noticed in the liner notes to Sugar's "File Under Easy Listening" a note that it was not mono compatible. So I hit the mono button on my stereo, and some highs dropped off the drums, but then I tried a few bigger rock records and wa...
