Just got the cd today. It is a little hard to listen to in that it is kind of bright with a lot of distortion on the guitars. I did a little remaster of If You Are To Bloom that made it sound bigger, smoother and easier to listen to.

Man, I haven't read all of the posts because I don't have much time right now but I love this site. Everyone seems so much more helpful and interested in honestly exploring both problems and solutions to the modern artist.

My personal favorite reference mixes are Aja by Steely Dan and for modern alternative believe it or not, (No I'm not walking on air) is Third Eye Blind's first self titled album. Especially some of the songs that are less well known towards the end of that album.

I just bought Downward is Upward because of this thread. Mark Rubel seems like he would be great to record an album with. His comment that he's waiting for the fun police to take him away because what he does for a living doesn't seem like a job is very inspiring.

I've been doing post audio for the past 8 years or so. TV, radio, shorts, features, docs, etc. I also work on the occasional record project, either the whole thing or tracking some parts. I feel pretty lucky to be working in a great studio with (mostly) cool clients. There are occasional moments wh...

My first impression of the sonics after listening to short clips of all the songs is that the recording sounds too digital and bright for my taste. Funeral sounded much more organic and analogue to my ears at least...

V676

I heard this pre the other day and fell in love with its sound. Can anyone point me in the direction of a modern, (And maybe cheaper) pre that would sound similar? Thanx in advance to any and all suggestions.

drums and bass...

I've been messing around last night and today with a musical idea. If you get a chance check it out, I'm curious how it sounds on your speakers. Check out the second sample, (Which says Think Different) since that is the one I think is more what I'm going to go with. It is just bass and drums right ...

Thanks for posting that, that is the coolest thing since sliced bread. I just sent a sample over, it came out really cool. I hope this stays free. The quality is pretty damn nice to!

Hands down my favorite producer is Steve Lillywhite. His work on Morrisey - Vauxhall and I, Dave Mathews - Crash and Phish - Billy Breathes establishes him as one of the all time greats. I like Eno's work on Joshua Tree, I like a lot of Nigel Godrich's work, OK Computer and The Information as well. ...

I love The Information, I think it is the best album yet by Beck. What I find interesting is the DVD is way less squashed than the cd thus the sound is amazing. I love listening to the album through the DVD because the sound quality is much better by leaps and bounds!

Cool!

I sort of had this epiphany today. I've always thought that it was better to directly connect a keyboard, (for instance) into the line inputs of a mixer to get a good sound. Now after reading an article about eq written by David Mellor in 1995 and listening to you're sample I feel somewhat enlighten...
