I own both, and I just picked up a second RNC. I like the RNC on most vocals, on some drums, on guitars... I like the RNLA on drums, some vocals, some guitars. They're both pretty great, but if I had to pick one it would be the RNC - it is subtle, but I wouldn't personally call it "sterile" or "util...

yeah, replacing my lil' 17" VGA is next on my list! Working in Cubase on it is making me frustrated!! At Christmas there were sales everywhere on flat screen tv's and I almost bought one to mount on the wall over my console. Editing on a huge screen like that would be a godsend. . . That big HDTV p...

Next up, fitting the wood plug and putting together the capsule holder thingy. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3589/3389292330_7c82a3170a.jpg As Scott noted earlier in the thread, the wood plug is a little fat for the tube - so back to the rotary tool. I just gently worked it down, twisting the plug ...

So, I didn't think I had taken pictures of that second grill... then I found these. I also forgot that I used a vice to really flatten the top of the grill - which worked really well. And the real secret, I used a much bigger hammer. New hot grill on the right, old beat grill on the left. http://far...

Soldering the top to the side proved to be a little trickier. I didn't photograph this stage very well, but here's one of Scott's pictures of how he started out (I hope Scott doesn't mind): http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3466/3386275505_aab6d05e2a.jpg Now, this worked great, except I had a bitch of ...

Now onto the grill tops. I saw that Scott used a couple of copper end caps to shape the tops, so I went to Home Despot to find these: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3629/3386242963_cd739dc034.jpg Every single item in Home Despot has a barcode attached to it somehow. Why? So that we can go through th...

Then on to soldering the sides of the grill. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the brass mesh takes solder quite well. I found that lead-free solder worked quite well for this, since it hardens slowly, which gives you time to shape the grill as it cools. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3623/338...
