I recall that we sat in on the mastering at some place on Sunset Blvd., but I don?t even remember what that place was. Ah, the sweet folly of youth. Hoagie I wonder if it was at John Golden's mastering lab. Does that name ring a bell? He did a lot of the indie label stuff back then.. bigger stuff t...

It's the most fun I've had with a game since the 1st Nintendo system... Mario, Donkey Kong, etc. I suck at every game I've played, but enjoyed the one's that weren't all "heavy" first person shooter types, in spite of my suck-age. GH is the only game I've ever beat. It has zero relevance to playing ...

I'm still running a couple of Mix era systems, and I'm now starting to feel the "crunch" of not having the newer versions of the software. Also, the 888/24 is a pretty lackluster interface, though there is the Apogee AD8000 which has come down in price quite a bit, and sounds good to me. Remember yo...

Anyone had a chance to try this vs. the Big Knob? Obviously the Big Knob does more stuff, but I'm curious if the volume control aspect is better or worse between one or the other.

I did several records there, and they had what I think was a 1600. I remember that the eq had 3 fixed eq points per band, with cut/boost, and 3 bands (hope that makes sense). I know they'd had something else... I believe another Sound Workshop... before I was there, but I never heard which it was, t...

I think this is what I really like about the DA's. There's a vaguely un-natural thing about them that makes them interesting.

I played a Dan Armstrong for about 10 years, and did many recordings with it. It had a darker tone than most other guitars I've had, but very even and full. It seemed like the tone didn't vary note to note, or octave to octave as much as other guitars do. Unfortunately, the bridge on the original Da...

Lucid Genx6 with 888/24's. An improvement?

I'm on a Pro Tools Mix3 system with 3 888/24's. I've been watching a Lucid Genx6 word/super clock on eBay, wondering if it would make a noticeable improvement in the sound of my 888/24's. Anyone use this combo, or have any ideas on this? I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Stephen

I work part time in a place that does strictly voice over, and we use MBox 2's, which work fine. You could likely get away with the MBox Mini, since you only need 1 input at a time. We run ours on IMac's, and really old G4's, but you could probably use anyting from a G3 Blue and White on up just fin...

I'm on a Mix system which has no ADC, so I have to put the same plugins on every drum channel whether I'm using them or not, so I'm using Filterbank E6 eq, and Compressorbank CB1 on each channel, though I'm usually only using compression on the kick, snare, and toms, if at all. Depends on the drumme...

I'd say I try a lot harder on other peoples music. I certainly work harder for it, because they're paying me, and I want them to get what they want. My stuff, however much easier to record than most things I work on. I've recorded myself so much that I have a clear idea if it's going to work or not....

I've got no hardware comps, so I'm using plugins.. usually a McDsp CB1 set to a fast attack and release, followed by a Massey CT4 with a slow attack and a medium release. I've tried doing slow attack first, but I seem to like fast attack first more... for reasons I can't put my finger on.
