FOR SALE: Soundtracs Topaz 24 (Seattle only, $900)

Hello! this used to be the centerpiece of my studio, the tool that put food on the table. but I have since abandoned the professional studio lifestyle for other things. I am moving and can no longer haul around this beast. So yea, Soundtracs Topaz 24. 8 groups. has some weirdness (1 or 2 malfunction...

went to the art institute of seattle - discovered it was a total waste of money, some kind of mcdonalds/cartoon version of a real academic institution. theres a good chance that a 'regular' school with have classes in audio engineering, and will actually teach you other things too. especially if you...

started, and finished bass and keys (organ + synth) for this band. went well. i really need to find something to do with the synth though, something radical. i couldnt figure it out today, but i am starting to get some ideas. that will come TOMMOROW

sounds rad! things i would do in a second, that are totally subjective: bring the cymbols down a good notch or 2. compress the drums. COMPRESS. probably in parallel to the open mix. probably compress the entire mix a bit too. a bit the vocals sound rad. i love it when that style of vocal actually so...

my go-to for vocal distortion is this killer pioneer tape deck from the late 70s. has 2 mic pres that beg to be in the red. my topaz pres do it okay, but are a little harry in comparison. tube guitar amps are also good! nuendo has this plugin called DaTube, which can pass sometimes, as long as its n...

huh. my gut impulse upon hearing of the death of a major label is to laugh my ass off and spit on their grave. is EMI different or something?

Yes, IMO it is stupid. Buy one[b/] and if you like it, buy some more. Buying multiple units of something you have not heard makes no sense to me. I like mine, and I bought it based on soundclips and recomendations. But I bought one this way - not eight. haha you take me too seriously. thx for the h...

haha i love this board. the last week ive been budgeting a ton of upgrades to my studio (i am living off it now! gotta show it some love :D), including some outboard pres. i was looking at 4 channels @ ~800$ avg, but this EH pre sounds very tempting. now i am considering 4-8 channels of EH.... is th...

ive always worked this way. at first, it was because of a simple lack of space, but ive grown to hate having any physical objects between myself and the people i am recording. gotta be able to communicate!

and yea, ear protection is key

i'll say it again: focus groups mainstream radio = the product of focus groups i, for one, do not give half a shit if the "average joe" is into what i do. these are the people that wish more music sounded like classic rock, but would have hated it if they were adults during that period. then there i...

some opinions, varied in coherence and importance: protools does not make bands sound the same. money sources reinforced by focus groups do. the radio is not where people go to find MUSIC these days the ability for John Q Moron to multitrack, does not make our job any less important. who cares if hi...

ive never gotten the same sound out of a small amp, as i get out of a CRANKED Warp amp or a CRANKED nice head through an ampeg 8x10 cab

small amps have just never worked out (>35watts), but maybe im still too young for my own good :P

finished some recordings - grind/prog metal/wtf

hey! we finished up the mixes for the first 3 songs of the 6 song EP my band is recording, and i wanted to get some fresh ears on this for when we go to do the final mixes for all six. 2 listening options, 192k mp3, or the terrible myspace streaming tool. the myspace one has older mixes, that are no...
