You think eagle sucks? maybe I missed the boat on somthing. What are you using? I have tried all the free ones, and pads PCB and I thought that Eagle was rock solid. I couldn't get past Eagle's inscrutable user interface and its awful library setup. The library stuff is important because I never us...

I have used PCB express in the past with poor results. I always got frustrated. I strongly recomend geting your feet wet with Eagle. It's free, but your limited to board size. I can't express how much this CAD kicks ass. Runs in windows, linux (x-11) and os-x (x-11) http://www.cadsoftusa.com/ Someo...

I wish someone would make a stupidly simple control surface with just banks of faders and transport controls. Nothing else. I do not mind using the mouse for everything else. I just want 24 motorized faders and a master stereo fader, pan, Transport, and maybe solo and mutes. NO screens, banks, or a...

Re: Presonus Tube Pre mods?
The tube in that box is a starved-plate placebo. The unit is a solid-state preamp. Trying to bypass the op-amps means you'll bypass everything in the box.kentothink wrote: What I want to do is bypass any opamps or whatever else might be effecting the sound in here to get it to be just plain 12(xx)7 tube-y.

Nobody knows what to do when one thing is RCA and the other thing you want to connect to is 1/4 to make it balanced? Simplest method: don't worry about the balancing as hiss is not a sign of balanced vs unbalanced problems. It's a sign of gain structure issues. Replace the noisy gear. Next simplest...

Re: questions about voltage
If this seems familiar it's because I'm the one that keeps asking almost the same questions over and over. I find the measurement of test tones during record calibrationg the most confusing thing about tape machines. but how 'bout this one: I understand that when you are measuring voltage coming fr...

Could that cause sound problems like hiss that not being balanced. How can I make it balanced one thing has 1/4 the other has RCA is there no way to balance it then. Hiss is generally a gain-structure problem. Gear with RCA connections usually has -10 dBu nominal (consumer) levels whereas balanced ...

Reversing polarity does NOT equal 180 degrees out of phase. Phase is time-based - polarity is not. Suppose you had a signal multed to a second channel. Engaging the polarity switch of the second channel will reverse the polarity of that signal - it is now a mirror image of the original. Now, suppos...

Ugh ... I've lived in Tucson for almost ten years, and I haven't bought so much as a set of guitar strings from those gonifs ... -a Well that was very jaded-sounding...can you explain that comment a bit for us tourists? Yeah, every time I go in the store, it's the same old piles of junk. Sometimes ...

Re: Rack mount chassis box from Redco
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but: http://www.redco.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=158&cat=Rack+Mount+Chassis+Box I've been looking for one of these, and thought I'd share. $65 and it's aluminum. I wish they had a 3U case that is only 6 inches deep. I don't need a 13" deep chassis...

Re: Plundering the Chicago Store on Monday 6/11/07...NEED RI
My post-conference plane leaves real late Monday night. So, on Monday morning I've made an appointment to do some long-winded treasure hunting in the basement/attic of the Chicago store with a flashlight and stuff. Wanted to do that since I first saw the splendor of it last year. Craig says I'm off...

Re: Balanced VS Unbalanced
Not sure I FULLY understand the whole balanced/unbalanced thing. If I have a mic plugged into a UA-610 mic-pre and using an XLR--->TRS cable, it goes into my DBX balanced patch-bay. Questions: 1. Now - if I use an unbalanced (TS) patch cord to route the signal elsewhere, will this interupt my "bala...

By the way, Skin Effect refers to the lower resistance that a wire has to the flow of electrons closer to the surface. This is critical to cable design because it is a guiding factor in determining individual wire thickness and insulating schemes. Cheaper, simpler cable that doesn't address this in...
