Re: the gossip

Saw them at Echo in LA a while back. Totally kicked ass.

The liner notes to the Movement CD say only "This album was recorded by John Goodmanson + Kip, onto a tape player"

Re: Brooklyn Tape Op beer night

Only three of us showed (unless there were others lurking who didn't find us). The other male patrons were parts of groups which included women, so they couldn't have been tape-oppers. Ayan and I were there, but couldn't figure out who else was around. That's a bummer. :( Up for future meetin...

Re: Melt, melt, damn solder.

The melted solder on the iron acts as a heat transfer fluid. Plus if you touch a bit of fresh solder onto it before hitting the joint, you'll have some nice flux as well. Try this: If you're stuck on heating up a stubborn joint, try sticking a little solder right onto the iron. Usually that makes i...

Re: Mic'ing a Baby?

Congrats! I have a 6 month old daughter, myself. And we had the same idea. Oktava MC-012 straight on (and I mean touching) your wife's large belly. Believe it or not, it works pretty good. We used to leave a 012 pluged into a Mackie 1202 & headphones in the living room just to dork out and listen. M...

Re: Throwing in the towel?

keep working at it..dont quit! This is the most important message. If you like it, don't quit. Just spend the time that you can, and have fun. That's what I do. I have a 50-60 hour/week job and a 6 month old daugther, but the couple hours I get with music are life saving. electrical engineering sch...

I love this part...

"...the Neve sound... ...What goes in comes out... just hotter."

WTF? Does that qualify as a "sound"?

You know, Hell-o-ween. Pumpkins, gourds, etc.

Anybody ever make shakers out of gourds? Can I just let them dry out on their own, or are they just gonna rot and stink up the joint?

I probably did this in 2nd grade, but I can't remember.

I have a pair of 6.5's, and I've replaced the low-end drivers as well. I can't remeber where I bought the parts, but a speaker should cost less than $100... I think I spent around $80. You can install it yourself, you don't need a tech.
