well, now that the dust has settled a little bit and if the original author of the thread doesn't mind i wish to take some time to explain what i said before a bit more. First- "money is no object" that was just a figure of speech. My company has done work for studios who ponder every other year of ...

but i heard that a major recording studio (in their money is no object sort of ways) wanted to know if the new SSD drives actually SOUND better. If what i heard is true, their golden ears could tell the difference and preferred the SSD over the older type when they did a shoot out. Well, that's the...

i know this doesn't help because i literally over heard someone say it. who said it? i don't remember. i guess its an urban legend at this point to me, but id for sure would like to know for sure. maybe someone out there has heard more about it, but i heard that a major recording studio (in their mo...

from what i've heard of the units that are like this.. 8 analog I/0 and two sets of adat ports for about 700-1200 dollar range, the profire2626 i prefer the most and its not even the most expensive one. its just a little bit scoped sounding, but in listening to the D/A it has a lot of headroom and t...

So I disconnected the ADAT XT from the RME, minor change in crackle frequency. I then raised the buffer to 256 from 128. This did get rid of the crackles, but I really think this system should be able to handle a 128 sample buffer. Am I just asking too much of this technology? just a suggestion tha...

Re: MOTU 2408 w/o PCI card as AD Converter

My concern is with clocking. My 002 clocks via SPDIF to a BL Sparrow. Neither have word clock out. Would the 2408 clock to the 002's ADAT out without clocking errors during record? I know I could clock to the 2408 via ADAT, but that would render the Sparrow useless. just give us a call and we can h...

the only problem you may run into with lap tops is the RAM. that desk top you had you could probably max out at 8-16GB? if im not mistaken the new mac laptops only to up to 4GB? if you plan on only doing 12-14 track sessions at 44.1 with a few plug ins for field recording, then you might be ok. ok.....

before i respond to this, i do understand that this has gone of subject. ok... my light pipe interface (Personally modified Tango 24 which kicks the crap out of a lynx aurora sonically ) well... uses light pipe cable, so I can't use aes in that case. lots of interfaces don't have aes, the cheaper un...

i did have one more thought on the subject... durability and warranty. if anyone is a live guy, or someone who's running a huge studio where failure is not an option, and if there was a failure, hey... that twitchy guy from the huge record label might irrationally choose to go with a different studi...

im sorry... i misunderstood. you're saying that you heard no difference, right? it was a total dumb ass thing on my part of not knowing what the word NULL means. now i know! lol. interesting. i'd like to hear that interface myself sometime. i've heard sooooo many interfaces, but yet to check out tha...

I recorded the SPDIF output from my $39 DVD player into Pro Tools using a bog standard yellow RCA a/v video cable (the ones that come with the white/red RCA audio cables). I clocked to the SPDIF signal from the DVD player. The result was a complete and total null against the original wav file rippe...

I was under the impression that some people like the sound of jitter. Makes it sound more analog by introducing a bit of randomness. with clocking you want it to be smooth smooth smoother smooth and yet smoother still. just like how tape is. smooth as silk. even if a tape machine has a motor that v...
