CUBASE, FIREPOD, 163X!

I just got my fancy new 163x and I'm trying to fit it into my mixes. I'm running a firepod into Cubase LE on a Macbook. In Cubase I'm routing my snare track to bus 2 and feeding that into the input on the 163x. The output of the 163x is going into the line in 1 on the firepod and I'm recording that ...

cheapo patchbays?

i'm trying to set up my home studio and now i'm on to buying a patchbay. is there any reason that i shouldn't buy a cheapo behringer balanced 1/4 inch patchbay. with a proper xlr to 1/4 inch cord can i patch my eh12ay7 through without catching that nasty 60 hz hum?

Tape Op Omni Problems

So I built two mics and two power supplies. When i plug them in to try them out i have to crank the preamp all the way up to hear anything at all and it's very noisy. This is my first attempt at building anything so i've probably screwed it up. Does the fact that the output is so low and noisy imply...

Tape Op Mic Power Supply

When creating the tape op omni mic power supply can i simply cut off the connector of any old 9V power supply and solder it in instead of using a 9V battery?

Transformer question.

I'm about to order parts to build NYDave's reamp box and now i'm looking at the transformers. Is there any good reason to buy this transformer: http://www.edcorusa.com/products/matchers/m2m10k-150.html rather than this transformer: http://www.edcorusa.com/products/transformers/wsm/wsm10k-150.html Is...

Another EH12AY7 mic pre problem

I went to use my EH12AY7 today when micing a bass cab and when i played it back it was very distorted. I pulled the mic off and put it in front of an acoustic guitar and it was no longer distorted but was very noisy. I then swept the input gain knob and there was very little change in volume. Any id...

how are you connecting the 12ay7 to the firepod? Make sure you're using the XLR out of the preamp to a TRS 1/4 input into channels 3-8. If you connect xlr to xlr, the firepod will run it thru a 2nd preamp, and if you go 1/4 to 1/4, you're not getting the best signal from the 12ay7. Wouldn't that st...

do you think a refurbished macbook pro is a safe bet? i found an m-powered protools bundle on musiciansfriend.com for $700. it comes with protools, an m-audio 1814 interface, and an akg mic. does that sound like a reasonable price?

Buying a Macbook

Hi all. I've been a PC guy all my life but I'm now looking in to setting up a fairly simple MAC laptop recording rig. I already have mics. I'm looking to buy an M-Box and laptop for around $2000 total. Any suggestions for what kind of MAC to get? Are there any good deals online? Any help is greatly ...
