Great drums

OK maybe this is just crazy talk but here is an idea. Ask around who the best drum teachers are in your area. Take one lesson from the 3 best and instead of learning drumming see what they know about drums! Play their kits, see what they like and hate and what they look for. Could learn everything y...

Sennheiser HD 535 headphones SCORE!!

Goodwill visit yesterday. Bent plug - .99!! I bought a gold replacement plug at Radio Shack and soldered it on. Very nice sounding headphones, especially for the price!! Being a constant scrounge pays off again :D

Vox AC15

The ac15 sounds amazing. It is kind of a one trick pony... but what a trick. The main thing is to get a class A power amp with EL tubes... either EL84 or EL34... and a damn nice 12" speaker... I had the blue speaker on the AC15, and it sounded really really good... I sure do miss that thing... Coup...

Vox AC-15

Good friend of mine is a Vox fanatic, owns quite a few of them. He has one of the 90's reissue AC-15s and it is his favorite for gigging. He claims the 1-12" and 2-10" versions have a different circuit and that the 1-12" is the way to go. I am not clear on why this is so or even if it is true. Anywa...

Small room mic placement

This is a completely un-scientific ritual you can perform if you want. Try playing your guitar and moving around in the room. It will sound different in various places. If you find a spot where you like the sound make a mental note of it. If you find a spot where you hate the sound make a note of th...

Tube screamer and chorus

Plug them in, fire them up and see what you think! Who cares how they are rated? Jimi Hendrix would have paid big money to get anything that good, the Fuzz Face was a vile little box (owned 2 of the REAL ones, no flaming, it's my opinion and I am sticking to it). At the very least, if you run your g...

$1000 mic

Gotta at least try a Shure KSM44. VERY low self noise and a smooth full sound. May or may not work well with your voice, I love mine.

teac 3300

In fact, it is a 1/4" 2-track that plays 10" reels--and records at 7.5 or 15. IOW, just what I wanted. Same series as the 3440, say the internets. Working order. I'm supposed to go pick it up today or tomorrow! I'll let y'all know how it works out, if it works out. You never know with Craigslist. I...

Teac 3300

This is a 7" reel 4 track deck, correct? If I am not mistaken I had one about 25 years ago. I modded it by mounting 4 triple pole double throw center off switches into the head shell, making a totally lame-ass 3340. I could switch the channels on the record head to playback, giving me simul-sync. Ha...

Air tubes for drums

I used to jam sometimes with a drummer that did this. He had clear plastic hose line hooked up to the vent hole in a couple of his toms. With both heads on the drums were air tight. So he would play with a tube in his mouth and could raise or lower the pitch of the drum by regulating the pressure in...

4 track cassette

I have no idea what is out there now. I just bought a Yamaha MT100 at Goodwill for $10, haven't run tape yet but it looks good and lights up. Back in the day the Audio Technica was the box to have, it had a real +4 mixer with XLR inputs and Dolby C on it. Maybe there is a creampuff one around somewh...

Childs drum set

These seem to pop up often at Goodwill or Salvation Army. I bought a nasty little Chinese set for $35, kept the snare and the Sonor drum throne (Score!!). I also have an antique child's snare drum I found at.....the Antique Shop! It has calfskin heads, was beat up looking and $12. I always check the...

Scroll down to the Gibson section, should be able to date your Thunderbird. The 70's reissue ones are pretty rare, they sold a lot more Firebirds.

mixing

agreed. spend time on arrangements and tone when traacking - makes your life wayyy easier down the road. can't put 10lbs of shit in a 5lb bag too. Not much to go on in the OP's description but the first thing I wonder is how does the arrangement sound when the band plays it live? Is it open and pur...

small studio

I would try to buy the timeless stuff first. Get the mics, preamp and monitors earlier in the game. I would rather have a couple of really nice mics than a few good ones for what you are doing. Ditto on the monitors, your computer will be long gone and you will still be smiling at the sound of good ...
