I vote for a Mesa Single Rectifier, 50 watt. It has an amazing clean tone and I can dial in almost any kind of distortion.

Honorable mention for the Hot Rod Deville, Orange Tiny Terror and definitely stay away from the JCM 900's.

My biggest concern now is finding the perfect 2 x 12 cabinet.

In defense of Sweetwater, especially in light of Musicians Friend, when you have a 'buddy buddy' over at Sweetwater, it's a helluva lot easier to badger them on satisfaction and returns. Musicians Friend reps act like they don't even want to pick up the phone, let alone make sure you're stoked about...

JWL wrote:great advice here. If you line the entire ceiling with 4" panels and a 4" airgap, it will HUGELY improve the sound of your room.
Would a ceiling cloud be a potential fire hazard from the recessed lighting?

I know I'm pushing my luck here considering the great responses I got, but is there a link that you could direct me to that would instruct one on the construction of those kinds of panels? I still have plenty of mineral wool from where I soundproofed above the ceilings in the joists. I guess I just ...

hardwood over concrete or pier and beam? cos that makes a real difference. you can throw down a rug to help with reflections off the floor, but dealing with resonances from a cavity underneath would take a bit of work. Well, it's hardwood built upon pier and beam but underneath that is concrete. So...

Would those panels be fixed to the ceiling or suspended and if so, by how much?

Thanks!

Problems with ceilings......

So when constructing my 'live' room, I think I went too far. It's not a very big room: length: 11.5' width: 10.5' height: 9.5' this is with hardwood floors as well. Trying to record drums in there (which was supposed to be its purpose) has proven to be frustrating to say the least. I imagine it's fr...

Click and hold one of the virtual knobs with your mouse. Now close your eyes and slide the mouse up and down until it sounds the way you want for that parameter. Repeat for the other knob(s). If you are in doubt about using the plug-in at all, move the mouse so that the pointer is right over the by...

Bass track compression settings

So if I'm busing my 2 bass tracks (SansAmp + DI) to my aux bass channel and using an 1176 plug in, what would you guess to be the ideal settings for making sure everything stays nice and cozy?

Should I even bother using the plug in?

The DVD that came with that CD (Songs For The Deaf) has a ton of their in-studio progress and is just awesome to watch the drum tracking parts when Dave is locked in like a clock. That always cracks me up when I get bands who don't want to record to a click track and say shit like 'well, Dave Grohl ...

Since it's technically on-topic, what exactly is happening during Zep's 'How Many More Times' during the bowing section where you can hear parts of another song/take pretty clearly? This has to be an entry level question but sorry, I just want to know what it is..... If you listen to enough zep, yo...
