Re: Considering going back in time with an old MOTU interface
Agree it could be a clocking issue - I would also try checking your ID22 firmware is up to date and that your Audient ID software is the latest version too. Check whether Audient recommend clocking the ASP800 from the ID22 or vice versa - I have an ID44 and a Cranborne 500 ADAT unit for additional i...

Re: Rudy Van Gelder website - gear & history galore
Glad I found this - thanks for posting! 20+ years ago I remember searching the web for RVG info and you couldn't even find photos of the studio, let alone how it was constructed, so that's a great read. And ooooooOOOOOOOWWWEEEEEE! Those Grady Tate drums at the start of this Jimmy Smith outtake!! Dro...

Re: RIP Chris Garges @cgarges
Was very sad to see news of Chris' passing via a mutual friend on Facebook. I only really knew of Chris through his posting here, but always enjoyed reading his articles, posts and advice, and chatting with him here in a few threads.

Re: List of Jazz or Soul Records that used an old drum machine?
Good thread! From memory there's at least one Willie Hutch track using a rhythm box - maybe on the Foxy Brown soundtrack? I'll have to check. Also from that era George McCrae's 'Rock Your Baby' has some super preset action happening. Is there a track on Can's 'Tago Mago' with drum machine too? A bit...

I know you're aiming for Rock and Roll rather than Jazz, but this is an interesting article on recording Dave Brubeck at Columbia in the late 50's / early 60's. Some nice mic layout diagrams, insights into mic and instrument placement, and mixing too. http://www.prosoundweb.com/article/print/remaste...

MP3 is here... http://www.prostudioreviews.com/mp3/home.mp3 It's a bit of a silly song, but it goes to show that it's more about the vibe, technique, and approach than it is about the gear. I had a lot of gear around, with many preamps and mics. But I actually just used an AKG 414TLS through a Focu...

There are several UK / European bodies you could join and receive free contract advice - The Musicians Union, Incorporated Society of Musicians , Music Producers Guild amongst others. Membership fees vary, but the legal advice they can offer is always tailored towards music industry contracts, and h...

Always know when there's a thread I'll be interested in when the Shitty Is Pretty pdf starts getting hits off my web server :) Some great tips from Gregg and Drummerman on getting more of that 'band all playing at the same time' vibe if you're tracking everything yourself one instrument at a time. I...

Might be a bit late, but if it's an analog console you're after, Liam at Toe Rag Studios would be worth talking to. They're in Hackney, but it's not a million miles from Camden.

Apropos of nothing, but with tubes in mind, I took a punt on the SE ICIS a few years back when it was discontinued and they were selling them off cheap. Been pleasantly surprised at how nice it is as a kit mic on drums, and it's pretty much a permanent part of my '3 mics on drums' set up at home the...
