It would be really easy for me while changing out one plug unintentionally unplug other jacks, so the time saved not soldering I would spend tracing down unplugged plugs. That's a good point too! Believe me, I've done this and it ain't fun. The denser my patchbay setup gets, the more I wish it was ...

How does the SM5 stack up to these? I've been curious ever since reading an interview with some engineer I respect (though I forget which one) who said it was their favorite vocal mic ever. I almost never see them for sale, though, and am guessing the SM7 is the replacement model. Does anyone have a...

I'm guessing the key to success here is timing. I imagine that most places will get rid of stuff immediately after they decommission it.

Looks pretty sweet for the price. I'd love it just for the EQ. I've never actually used any of the new Toft stuff, but from the reviews I've read that's where the sweet spot is and apparently it's fairly similar to the Trident 80B EQ. But I'm pretty happy with my D&R Dayner and imagine it would just...

The patchbays are great for the money. I have a bunch that are still going strong after 5+ years. Their cable tester is cheap, handy, and seems to work well. I also have a 4 channel direct (Ultra DI pro) that I'm fairly happy with. I mean, I'd don't think I'd record bass direct with it but it works ...

'm not trying to be a dick, but a recording engineer that cant solder is like a soldier that hates guns. True, but to solder up a patchbay and cabling for one's first attempt at even using a patchbay seems totally silly to me. I've been rearranging gear in my home studio for years and am just final...

I have one. I love it. Tons of features, the lowpass filter sounds very nice, the switchable VCA is pretty awesome too. I main use mine with the trigger inputs hooked up to a trigger sequencer for the bedroom electronic music I make, but it has a really flexible architecture that allows for some oth...

I don't know the answer to your questions, but I use my basement for tracking despite the fact that the AC and furnace are down there. I just turn them off via the thermostat while tracking quiet stuff. I don't even bother when recording stuff like guitar amps.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that Nick is a great guy to deal with.
He shipped my MA-2 a couple of days later than originally anticipated, so he offered me a discount towards future purchases. Can't beat that!

Well, I got my MA-2 in the mail last week. I haven't done any tracking with it yet, but my impressions from fooling around with it in the live room are favorable so far. The build quality is pretty nice and it looks great. I would be really surprised if it performs as well as the Mini-traps in the b...

I'd say 95% of professional tuners will take one look at it, make a surprised and offended face, then successfully do the job anyway. Yep, that's exactly what happened! Inverseroom, if you want a CP and don't have room for the 70, check out the CP-60M. It's an upright version so it has a smaller fo...

My live room is my basement and my control room is a bedroom two floors up. I bought a 100 foot snake with a 16x4 stage box on the end and run that up to the control room for tracking. I use 2 of the TRS inputs on the stage box to send a monitor mix to my Presonus headphone amp in the basement. As f...
