I do a lot of live show recording. The best way to get a solid mix, in your situation is to start with the vocal. Get the Vocal sounding as good as you can. Next bring in closer drum mics like kick and snare, setting there level to work with the vocal. Then start to fold everything else into the mix...

I would never even consider telling a band that they couldn't communicate with the ME that they're paying for. Even if it's a label thing, eventually, it's the band that's paying for it. They should have every bit as much say in the mastering process as they do in the recording process. yeah. total...

Mistake number 1... Letting the band speak or deal with the ME.! Really? I can't imagine being in a band and not being allowed feedback on our own project, especially since we're most likely the ones paying for it. I can totally understand the engineer recommending a mastering engineer and overseei...

One thing I can offer. Beware of the cymbal bleed in the Double Bass(Upright) track/mic. This is a killer and if you have a lot, you'll have to high-pass the upright bass.
