Re: XLR patchbay recommendations?

I've had the Art for about a year with no problems.

Solid build and works as advertised.

Hey, All.
I'm looking into XLR patchbays...
Hosa (369) and Art (P16) have come up in searches.
Any love/hate for either?
Other retail/used/DIY-source options available?

Thanks.

Anybody in Australia still getting TapeOp from 555 Music?

The subscription I used to get from 555 stopped a while ago, and I can't find any info on their website. The link to them from the TapeOp subscriptions page is 404.

Anybody know what's happening with subscriptions in Australia?

It might be obvious for recording engineers, but I think with regards to tracking a live band, that achieving some measure of separation is key if you are going to make dub. Just a short comment on this, based on experiences mixing a not-very-separated recording of drums, bass and pedal steel in du...

Just been to New Orleans.. Rebirth Brass Band "The Rebirth of New Orleans" (Their latest, I think. The epitome of NO brass band music?) TBC Brass Band "Modern Times" (Saw them perform in Frenchmen St. Wonderful. This CD is kinda old, but couldn't find anything more recent.) Both recorded at The Musi...

Thanks for these suggestions and invitations. All good, all noted.

Has anybody got ideas for stuff to do in Florida? Particularly interested in the Cuban/Caribbean music scene.

Australian TapeOp guy visiting NYC and other points east

I'm a Sydney based TapeOp subscriber, visiting NYC for a few weeks in June (staying in Brooklyn), then working my way down the coast to Miami. Likely stopovers include Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Raleigh, Charleston, Jacksonville, Orlando. I'd appreciate any suggestions from you all about i...

And is this value only measurable in $$$?

How to open an Apex 215?

I've got a Chinese ribbon mic that's essentially an Apex 215, though differently branded. I want to open it up and do a few simple mods, but I can't work out how to start disassembling: no obvious screws? I've searched here, plus Google, and Gearslutz, but haven't turned up anything useful. Anybody ...

Re: EHX 12AY7 Pre Power Supply?

The only power supply I've found so far to replace it is this one. Hasn't that unit got a different type of plug, which won't fit into the pedal? I'm in Sydney and I got a PSU here for my 12AY7: http://www.guitareffectspedals.com/otherpowersupplies.html It's the official EH unit. Got UK style prong...

The sound coming out of the bottom of the drum is as important as that coming directly from the skin. Conga players use stands or tilt the drum so that the opening isn't blocked. Try a mic low down, on the floor even, to capture some of the deeper sounds. Agree with other posters not to get too clos...

You don't say what OS you're on, but there's a free Windows VST called Tapestop.
I've used it, does the job.

I did a bit of darbuka recording last year, and the player insisted on getting the bass thump that comes out of the open end.

So you might consider micing both ends of the drum rather than trying for a room sound. Depends on the context, YMMV.
