Yes, the built in sound card, and it is my laptop, which only has a mic input.b3groover wrote:What are you using for a soundcard? Are you using the computer's built-in soundcard? And if so, are you going into that soundcard's mic input instead of the line level input?

Impedance problems? As Leigh states, make sure your wire-recorder outs are not going into a mic input. I've read of other transfers, and people haven't mentioned a hot output. Tip: One guy resoldered the wire-head directly to a cable going into a DI, so as to byepass the noisy old amp. Don't forget...

Well, as I said, I am pretty unknowledgeable about any of this stuff. But, for some reason, inside of one track it goes from almost no sound to clipping while he is playing. Part is just that the song started out quieter and got louder. Are you talking about stuff you're tracking, or the stuff you'...

I have the computer input way down (almost to nothing), and the mixer (a cheap little behringer 2 input job) isn't even into the yellow, and the output on that is turned down super low. If I turn it down much more it affects the sound. I have worked and worked and worked and tried everything I can ...

The easiest compressor ever is the dbx 163, and they can be found on the cheap. Alesis microlimiters are way cool on the cheap, too. If you're still getting tons of clipping, it may be due to recording too hot. Pull the mic back, turn the volume of the amp down, etc. - you may end up not needing a ...

I have a pretty slow computer and Cool Edit Pro is pretty limited, and I don't know all that much about software, patches, plugins, etc. So, I'm looking for a physical piece of hardware. I was serious looking at the Alesis 3630. I'm not "going" for a lo-fi sound, I'm just pretty limited in what I ca...

Great value Peak limiters/compressors???
I do a lot of lo-fi recording on Cool Edit Pro, and one of my main problems is clipping and maintaining a solid, consistent volume. I am not an audiophile, because I have a pretty crappy ear, and blown hearing, but I would really like to find something that is a good bang for the buck that will prev...
