Thanks so much for the responses so far guys! Many of them made me chuckle. There's definitely a common thread forming, but hearing different people with different experiences explain things in their own way is great. Sometimes something just hits you because it's explained in a way you can easily r...

Yep! but can never seem to learn this lesson with my own stuff though, as the "mixing" phase often starts before anything is actually finished.. If I ever do stuff for other projects/people I tend to limit mixing time a lot, and am generally surprised at how good everything sounds afterwards.

Oh yes! cool. How might you go about furthering something you weren't part of the immediate creation of though? How might you approach that? Be as specific as you need to be but as general as you can be.... if you can be bothered! :D

Your mixing "philosophy"

Hi! There are heaps of approaches to mixing and I'm sure they are all capable of getting awesome, (or not so awesome) results. Do you have a basic mixing "philosophy" or can you boil down what you do into some semblance of one? Audio examples of your own work or anyone else that exemplify your appro...

My old 4-track recordings have an amazingly high sample rate and they sound greeaa..okayish.. kinda bad to be honest. But I have a feeling this Pono thing is really going to take off, just like Google Glass and 3-d TV!

My album, Dark Days Ahead

Hello all. I don't post much but lurk around from time to time, I just thought I'd make you all aware of an album I finally put out this year. It's called "Dark Days Ahead" and I think it's pretty good. You can hear some tracks from it on myspace http://www.myspace.com/louisinglis Or pretty much the...

I still really love 'Finally We Are No One' by Mum. Same producer as Vespertine by Bjork. It has a similar introverted, cocooned sort of sound like
Vespertine but without Bjork sitting in the centre.

It really does it for me and I've never seen it mentioned here.

Weird, on the way to work today I was thinking how cool it would be to have a simple four-track, just volume and pan controls, maybe EQ, for my iPod. I figured something like that must exist somewhere, but to stumble on to the exact thing later in the day is pretty strange.

This song by Jet is a compendium of Beatles, John Lennon and 90's Britpop/rock phrases, melodically, lyrically and instrumentally. It astounded me when I first heard it.

See how many you can count!

Have you tried the "brilliant pebbles"? I'm thinking of picking up a few bags to fix my comb filtering.
