Re: Sub or bigger nearfields?
Unless you simply just don't like the Genelecs anymore, I would say keep them since you are used to them, maybe add a sub for low end if you're just trying to feel things more. But buying a secondary set of affordable full range monitors to have along side the Genelecs and Avantones could be a great...

Re: My old MOTU is on its last legs -- strong opinions on interfaces welcome
Yeah, interfaces like the newer 828es will connect just fine with the appropriate USB-B to USB-C cable. Even thought the USB-C ports on your computer are capable of way faster speeds they're backwards compatible with the USB2.0 spec. It threw me off too when I started seeing all these new interfaces...

Re: My old MOTU is on its last legs -- strong opinions on interfaces welcome
USB type c was supposed to make everything easy but there's still lots of nonsense and confusion because it's a connector form factor and not necessarily an indicator of transfer speed/spec. You have devices operating at usb 2.0, 3.0, etc. specs on the same damn plug and thunderbolt 3 and 4 as well ...

Re: Critique drum sound?
Overall it sounds great to me. Love the kick sound and I agree with everyone here on the cymbals being the only thing that might be worth experimenting with, if I turn down my monitors the element that jumps out the most to me is that stick attack. As digitaldrummer mentioned if they are nylon tips,...

Re: Best mic for acoustic in live setting?
Absolutely agree with everyone worried about feedback when using a mic live in a band setting, but definitely try out the things you have on hand and see if you can find some improvement without spending cash. The under saddle piezo pickup already in the guitar will most likely get you the most gain...

Re: Planning for December DIY drum recording
I second taking whatever mic you have left and doing everything in your power to not point it at the kit. I feel like a lot of the time when I set up a front of kit mic, I mostly like how it sounds on it's own, but it doesn't do a whole lot for the overall mix of the kit. Not roomy/vibey enough for ...

Re: policies on vax or non-vax
I think with the CDC and states lifting restrictions and putting the responsibility on business owners to enforce safety policies as they see fit, it's gonna get harder pretty quickly to not have to deal with people arguing about mask policies if businesses (smartly) continue them. The annoying thin...

Re: Logic Pro X on MacBook Pro to Facebook Live stream
been dealing with all sorts of video streaming situations for work and personal projects for the past year, i'm no expert on the matter but figured i'd share a couple additional things you may want to look into: Loopback is a simple app that acts similarly to soundflower but it has a more streamline...

Re: DIY DI full range guitar questions
If y'all have been rehearsing and doing pre-production and are happy with the sounds you are getting, I would make sure to just go for it and figure out a way to capture those sounds as is. There's so much to be said for committing to a sound, and setting up a recording session so you can just play ...

Re: RANT: "in your spare time.."
I'm pretty much entirely unknown in the grand scheme of the music world. I don't have super high end gear or an amazing studio and record maybe 1-3 albums per year for others if even that, and maybe a few other one off projects. I make a living doing sound and video work for a ballet company and the...

Re: RANT: "in your spare time.."
I'm definitely with everyone on the "get the money talk out of the way first" angle. Either by itemizing tasks like Larry or just being up front that everything is a hourly rate, and something that might only take 20minutes still equals a full hours pay. When I first started recording people other t...

Re: Sizing a PA for a Small Theater
That space is not gigantic so you may be able to get away with using what you've got as a basic rig for day to day theatre music, cues/sfx, and public address uses and then upgrading when the money is there. Hiring a PA when you have a bigger concert situation is definintely a good solution in the m...
