Having the bass live in the room can definitly be a plus. If you work to hard at isolation tgen you are going to loose the live feel. This requires a good band and good initial sounds to make work. If your band isn't good it's probably goung to show even more this way.

My studio has a few drum rooms. The biggest being the warehouse in the back. Sounds killer recording drums. Large very controllable sound.

We had a Pro VLA at my old recording studio and never really cared for it. Sounded lifeless, but thats just me. It was ok when recording bass.
