A data disc is burned using Yellow book specs for "ROM" - Read Only Memory - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-ROM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-ROM Many commonly used apps such as Nero and Toast can burn data discs onto either CD-R or DVD-/+R - where instead of CD Audio you are burning actual com...

mastering/freaking out Part II/DVD-R???

Man, I'm confused. Let me get this straight. To send my files to the ME, It's OK if I burn my AIFFs onto a DVD-R, but NOT a CD-R? And, what is a "data disc"? I'm suddenly terrified that I'm going to somehow manage to truncate my bit rate on my end and make my record sound terrible. Can anyone shed l...

for me that works the opposite way. when i finish a record i can't bear to listen to it at all, because it usually sounds like a continuous stream of incompetence on my part. i don't hear "music" i hear "competing frequencies" and "wrong decisions". after 6 months or so it sounds like music again. ...

I'm already worried about my mixing abilities, but being in contact with them has really eased my mind a bit, as they've been super great about what to keep in mind when mixing. Yeah? What was their advice? Seriously, I'm curious to know. I mean, which bits have been most useful to you? I'm always ...

Would you otherwise be exporting in a different program? Interleaving files to stereo shouldn't affect the sound at all -- It should null at the sample-level with no problem at all. Well, no program at all. Just using Ethernet to transfer the files from the HD24 to my Mac. I do appreciate hearing f...

The biggest comfort should be that both John and JJ Golden know their shit. I've known JJ through TapeOpCon and he's mastered a record I mixed. His communication and dedication are top notch, and I assume he learned that from his old man. Why are your mixes not already in stereo? Have you contacted...

Mastering is eight days away

I'm freaking out. I ship my record off to Golden in a mere 8 days. I've worked on it for over a year. Way over a year. Lost so much sleep. Got so many grey hairs. It's crazy. I'm looking for words of advice, wisdom, and comfort as I get ready to do something I'm pretty scared of. I'm especially curi...

I owned two TD-1s up until recently and never experienced the problem you describe. I'd ship it back and John will make it right (even if it's out of warranty!). Interesting. I've used another unit, and, like you, I don't remember it having this issue. But I did talk to someone at Millennia who tol...

Millennia TD1 EQ question

This is a question for anyone who has experience with the TD1. I noticed that just turning on the master EQ switch increases the noise of the unit considerably. Note: I'm not even switching on the individual EQ channels, let alone adding gain. Just turning on the EQ section. This seems pretty fishy ...

I just got it in January.

I used it for maybe 3 hours.

Some things have come up (read: property taxes) and I need the money.

I don't want to get rid of this. But I need to.

If you're interested, PM me and we'll talk $$$.

Cracks me up that all you cats feel like you're on the fringe or whatever, because I'm pretty sure I'm the most important, insightful person in this community. Whenever I'm typing some advice that I'm good enough to give out to some clueless youngster, I can feel the wisdom of my words sort of melti...

See, this is what TapeOp is all about! Seasoned professionals cluing in amateur douchebags like myself. Yeah, this is really awesome. I really appreciate all the info. Oh, and you were right kdarr. It is 240s that I have. And I love 'em, but yeah, not so good on the iso. Plus, bass kind of rattles ...

These days I'm all about my AKG K271's. They are huge and nerdy looking, but they sound great, they're comfy, and the cord is both straight and removable. [<|>] I totally hear you on the bright/loud/fatigue thing on the 7506s. I'm done with those. How's the isolation on the AKG K271s? I have an old...

Ultra durable, Great sounding, replaceable plug in cable, no idiotic spiral cord. A true studio standard!!

I gotta get me some. The spiral cord on my 7506s has driven me to drink.

That and a lot of other stuff.
