Awesome. Thanks a lot. I thought I saw Fostex on there, but wasn't sure about the model.

headphones in Wilco movie?

What the hell are the headphones the band is wearing in the studio parts of "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart"? Not the ones Tweedy is wearing, but the ones the other guys are wearing. Just curious. Seems like I see those headphones in lots of studio photos, but I've never known what they are. Thanks!

Re: Sparse Solo Acoustic Sound?

The overall recording sound I am shooting for is sparse and somewhat raw.Jeremy[/i] Sorry if any of this is obvious, but I've got a few thoughts because I've tried to make the same record. 1. Performance is everything. If you stand in the worst part of the room and use your worst gear, an awesome p...

Two thoughts about the two mics from the original question (even though it seems the poster has long since made his choice): 1. Tchad Blake used an RE-20 on Eitzel's vox for "Mercury." That in itself makes me want that mic. 2. I'm pretty sure none of the vocals for the YHF record were done with an S...

RNPs go used for $400? Wow. Sure am glad I just sold mine for $350. Anyway, you might also consider the Grace stuff. Similar price range, maybe a bit better than RNP from what I've heard. I used the RNP on just about everything for about 3 years. It's really solid. Nothing fancy, but nothing you'd c...

I'm trying to stick with the original question, which was about "masterpieces" as opposed to just favorites. With that in mind, I can't believe I didn't see this one listed. Maybe I just missed it: Liz Phair, "Exile in Guyville" A few more I don't think I saw that I believe qualify: Tribe Called Que...

PS: Loaded up my music diet intact with several very large helpings of AMC and the Scott Solter remix... the Solter mix is mind blowing on first listen!!!! Really glad you like the Solter stuff. Check out his Vanderslice remix stuff too. Scott is a master. No matter what I'm working on, listening t...

Just a quick first impression of the mic: wow. It's my first time using anything that's not cardioid. I got it hooked up to a mic pre and skipped compression because I wanted a true idea of what the thing would do. I put on my 7506s and really turned them up at the mixer so I could hear what was goi...

it was the best thing I've heard out of my unpracticed lungs and it made me want something like the Wunder CM7 GT so bad Interesting. That's almost an argument for keeping my fairly modest Chinese mics. Keeps me focused on music instead of gadgets! As soon as I sing into something great, I'll proba...

Just paid $100 for a new one at Full Compass. Maybe that's too much, but I got all excited and couldn't help myself. Maybe I'll post something on how it works out for me. I'm really curious to see/hear how that mic works out in a small room. Somehow, I think I'm really going to like it. Thanks again.

First up: I just found "Mercury" by American Music Club for $2 used on Amazon... sounds really mellow and... detailed. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to absorb that one. In terms of atmosphere you mention, that is what it is all about for me... seems sometimes like a big mountain to climb...

Cadillac Little-Ease if you're curious, i used the 635a all over this track. it was multitracked. drums with glyn john OH, kick mic, snare mic, ribbon in the room, but the 635a just below the rear hoop of the kick looking at the snare bottom. that's where all the mid range definition is coming from...
