i heard the Waves SSL MixBuss Compressor today and jeeesus! so so punchy and 'clear'.

driving the room mics hard didnt give you spitty harsh cymbals! usually i whack a de-esser on after an UAD 1176ln but here no problems.

think a duende or waves pack is on its way!

UAD2 cards look amazing but wont go in my old g4 mac unfortunately

So I'm wanting to bang another compressor onto my UAD cards. I already have the 1176ln, 33609, Fairchild and LA3a but I got a hankering for something new. Basically I've been looking at the LA2a as I hear it on countless vocal tracks and absolutely love it, (although my Fairchild is a go to for that...

I wondered if anyone had compared these pre's. The Arsenal Audio stuff is supposed to be really clean and i find the ISA428 to be like that.

Would I be silly having the Arsenal when I can have 4 pres instead?

Thoughts?

i have a cardboard tube about 16" wide and 4ft long for that. Stick my speaker or blue mouse at the end of it and bobs ur uncle! but i dont use it often. i'd like to hear that though!

i dunno but i've since sold mine. 40 quid better spent on going out or putting towards a r121 my end!

IMO mics first, then pre's. Pre's can be very helpful to the sounds but I wouldn't say that your 002 pre's are that bad. Maybe add a RME Octamic or something to get some more channels but other than that I'd grab some mics. A pair of 414's or a Blue mouse is a great addition to anyones mic locker!

I've been using this technique recently with decent results.



414's in cardioid, so each mic is in the 'null' of the pickup pattern.

after reading this thread i hadn't realised that I totally agree! I have a 609 silver and i never use it on anything. Did a rack tom once with poor results. Sn bottom is about the best place for it.

Anyone wanna buy one? haha
