Re: (Demonic) Pencil Tool in Protools
The pencil tool is a DESTRUCTIVE editing tool. It directly writes into the wave file. It is recommended that you first make a COPY of the audio file you are about to edit with the pencil tool. And keep the original intact. It's right in the reference manual: page 648 "Waveform Repair with the Pencil...

Getting motivated on your own music recording projects.
Hey all, I am finally, after years of saying so, making my own stuff. Mainly songs from the year I was born, covers of them. To get the part of the "making a new song" pressure out of the way. I am still finding it hard to be motivated to get some of it done. I have never really been "on the other s...

Re: dynamic mics and speaker coils?
Well, to have an interaction between the magnets, basically only the speaker magnet would be the one attracting the microphone body. It would also likely stop or greatly slow down the voice coil inside the mic or the ribbon mic could be destroyed. You could always try some experiments, knowing full ...

Truly sad. He was a wonderful guy and a great engineer. Loved reading stuff on his website and elsewhere. He will be sorely missed.

Re: Mono Auratone - who knew??
But curious did you come up using NS-10s? Are these close enough to the original to just get to work? I had used them to mix quite a few records, and yes, these sound the same. I did not just get back to works though, since I was sued to other speakers for years. I took about a week listening to pr...

Re: Mono Auratone - who knew??
Yep, it's actually a very old studio trick going back to the heady days of Radio dominance, the 1970s. I still have a pair here somewhere, but am not sure if they work anymore. I am enjoying my CLA-10a's too much to go looking for the Auratones LOL.

Re: Logic Pro 11 announced - Free upgrade for current users
There seems to be no date set, and I already have the "latest" version they have, which is 10.8.1. Gotta love Apple's mysterious ways... But wait! I found the press release: May 13th is the release date. https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/logic-pro-takes-music-making-to-the-next-level-with-new-a...

Re: Signals confusion
Hello everyone, If an active instrument outputs a line level signal, wouldn’t this be compromised going into the front of an amp as the amp is expecting to see an instrument level? And if not, then plugging a synth or a mixing board straight would be acceptable? Isn’t re-amping necessary to convert...

Re: LDC issue in Fig.8 & Omni (but fine in Cardioid)
It's one of two issues:
1. There is a bad capacitor in the circuit section regarding the backplane diaphragm.
2. The backplane diaphragm has gone bad.
Either way, I recommend you have it serviced by the company.

Re: Channel Strip Plugins
Are most of you using these channel strips towards the "beginning" of your plug in chains or afterwards? When recording, I've been using the Lindell 50 (Neve 1073) strip. On the 32 input busses, so their processing gets recorded. Nuendo has this cool feature where it has input busses where you can ...

Re: The Pro Jr.
I'm a big fan of leaving things alone. That said, questions: What is it that you don't like about the Pro Jr., that cannot be sorted out by another amplifier you already own? Is there something definitely missing from it's sound? And can you definitely make that aspect better by modding? I have a go...

Re: I'm not a piano technician
So I've always heard about the idea of "stretch tuning," which I understand to be something along the line of, "once you make it out of the middle, ignore the tuner and train/ trust your ears, as harmonic truth and perfect equal temperament are both false trails." True? Or have I misunderstood? htt...
