Another mic question thread (for Cymbals) ...
I am looking for some hypercardioid mics for close micing cymbals. 5 microphones and my budget is $500. The setup is for high hat, crash, crash, crash/ride, and ride. I have Ribbons for OH that I have used in the past (fat heads) but I need a tighter sound for a session 2nd week in august. SO I am c...

I like to start clean, so a client feels like they have not wasted money recording is a facility where they feel they need to squat over the toilet to take a dump. Now with that said, being clean and having studio vibe is two different things. When I book a band I ask that they bring some old show f...

Question about my console....
Ive always used the direct outs for my recordings. But I have slots with covers on them that say they are for multiway I/O.
Is this just something similar to a DB25 cable to go to a multitrack recorder?
It is a soundtrac M series 32 channel 8 buss console.
Thanks

800 square feet.
Im moving my studio. Im going to go look at a all open 800 square feet block office with a 10 foot ceiling How much space do you have to record in. Do you think this will be reasonable for a large live room, and a control area? Im going today to look at the space... I will take photos, and post them...

Mic it up with a PA mixer (rent one if needed), Then mixdown to the four inputs. Remember four inputs will not hold you to only four tracks. As for the mic setup... Use your ears. Record drums alone or they will bleed. You can DI a Bass if the drummer needs help, and also run a scratch guitar and vo...

Soundtracs M series.
Its been fine. All the sudden I power it up and all the peak lights are on, and all the meters are pegged. Power supply issue?
Where should I start looking for the problem so I can get this fixed ASAP.

First rule: You dont talk about fight club. There are no rules to panning. And dont forget a mix is not just left and right. I always start my mix the same way MONO at 0db. I normally place kick center, then pan my OH's until the kick is dead center in the OH's... I move on from here. I always take ...

what about trying some new mic pre's? Whats your sample rate set to? Also, try one 57 pointed center cone 1" off of the grill, then a second 57 off axis about 20 degrees pointing at the center cone 1" from the grill. Overdub guitars to add fatness. You can hard pan a guitar right, copy that guitar t...

Get a console. It will save you money in the long run. You can always pick up pre's as you see a good deal on them. Dont be afraid to travel a bit to get a steal on a console. Look around, on craigslist as well as asking on forums. Dont be afraid to go outside of ebay. Buy used, you will always get ...
