Any risk to playing back 8-track cassettes on a 4-track?

This is probably an incredibly dumb question BUT: I need to take stock of some old 8-track cassettes to see what's on 'em. I don't have an 8-track cassette recorded (ie, a tascam 238 488 or 688) and I don't want to invest in one unless I'm sure that these tapes have everything I'd need on 'em. I DO,...

Ditto on the 12ay7. Great pre. I pick it over more expensive pres (Sebatron, Great River, Chandler, Ampex) all the time. You won't outgrow it.

Yeah, the PM180 is great for this. I have one in great condition that I'm looking to unload for $70 in NYC... feel free to PM if interested! Also, yeah, those old Sure PA mixers are *nuts*. And dirt cheap. Not sure how much gain they have as preamps, but I love using them for the insane limiter acti...

Yeah, pads do have an effect, even if it's just a matter of where in the chain gain is being applied, etc. I use the pads on the MC-012s when I'm putting them on toms. They still sound fantastic.

Ahhh! See THIS is the kind of information I was looking for! You own both then I take it? Is there anything else that sets them apart like build quality or anything like that? I know that Joly's work is top-notch from experience, but does one feel like it will survive better versus the other? I wou...

Been loving the Pro 37 on acoustic guitar. Makes the attack sound bright and not flappy. Really handy.

The Joly MXL V67G is a total sleeper mic.... it *keeps winning* in shootouts I do on male vocals, even when it's up against the Joly 460. Incredible mic.

Agreed re: MC012's on toms. Was using an MC012 on rack tom and a CAD M179 on floor tom, wound up getting another MC012. Now both toms sound amazing; like, it's a treat every time they come up in a song. Seriously.

AT4033 -> EH 12ay7 is still a vocal chain that I use, even though I have "nicer" stuff. Great sound.

Obviously depends on singer, application blah blah BUT

MXL v67G -> Electro Harmonix 12ay7 is pretty great.

This plugin is amazing. I've used compressor plugins that make me go "wow, this is going to be an INCREDIBLY useful tool" (see the Waves CLA-76). I've used compressor plugins that make me go "wow, this does some really cool stuff, I can immediately think of many situations in which I will use it" (s...

I'm going to download this over the weekend and report back. Excited!!

SO excited to try this thing out. Joel, any "holy shit, I was TOTALLY RIGHT to spend that $330" applications you'd recommend?
