I just found these guide which seem pretty useful, although more specific advice on which parts to clean would be helpful - as well as specific info for the tascam 38

Help me be a good parent to my newly adopted Tascam-38!
I was lucky enough to pick up a tascam 38 a while back in near perfect condition! http://p.twimg.com/AqJpYlhCEAAyvce.jpg It seems to be working smoothly: It came with a tape of pink floyd backing tracks that seem to play fine. I have also recorded audio into it and that seems to work too, although t...

Which websites have mic sound samples / shootouts
Hello, I am looking for some websites that have sample recordings of microphones in action. I know of http://miclisteningroom.org/ I also remember visiting a site a while back which had a black background and a tonne of samples with a male and a female vocalist. I would be very keen to hear samples ...

Thanks very much for the replies already. If i'm trying the emulate the "sound" of boards of canada / Gentlemen Losers / Helios (which is a saturated, 3 dimensional, occasionally crackly sound) would the added width and speed of the 38 be an advantage, or would the 388 be up to the task? Music sampl...

My idea at the moment is I will record to tape, whilst running the outputs into my fireface 800 and then overdub and mix from the computer like this guy. http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=57536 thus hopefully achi...

I just thought of another question: Would I need a new set of preamps going into the reel-reel machine as well as an audio interface? Currently, I have a fireface 800, would that have enough ins to be able to 4 audio signals, into the ree-reel machine, then take the 8 reel-reel outputs and send them...

Choosing a tascam to integrate with my DAW
I am looking to get either a tascam 34b, 388 or a 38 to integrate with my DAW. I was hoping you guys could help me chose which one by answering some of the questions below. I usually record 3-4 tracks at a time, but ocasionally I go up to 8. With a 34b, I could record 4 tracks through the tape, and ...
