Funny enough, I do happen to have one lying around. I bought it about a year ago for a noisy preamp but it turned out that the pre needed to be rewired on one of the tube sockets, so the Hum-X was never needed. I know I have the box somewhere but it's among dozens of other boxes so I can't guarantee...

In my experience, that sort of thing (especially the popping) is usually a bad capacitor.

So its a question of best value, blind trigger-pulling in my case. For best value, I think it's clearly Mytek. Personally, I've been tempted to buy a used UA 2192 as used prices on those have become pretty reasonable (around $1,700) and it really is a gorgoeus sounding unit. However, if you're buyi...

Unless they're NOS tubes, I wouldn't sweat it too much. With NOS, it's been recommended to me that just leaving the thing on for 24-48 hrs. is a good way of breaking them in, especially if they're a little noisy at first. No need to put a signal through it. I usually try to power up my tube pres/mi...

... or a comp that you can afford and run the tracks through two at a time to warm them up and add some life. The pro vla excels as this IMO (on the low end). No need to really compress in this case, just line the signal through and re-record the "warmed-up" track in your DAW. Good call Kenny. Funn...

For the life of me, I can't understand what this thread is about. But, I will add that it seems like the uglier the gear is the better it sounds.

The most violent, aggressive low-end/mid-level comp I've used is the LA-4a. Plenty of grit and character. Low end has a nice grind to it. Upper mids have a little spit to them, w/o being too harsh. A lot of people mod these to make them more high-end, but I think that's a mistake. They're never goin...

In most cases, it's subtle, but nice. In a few, it's quite significant. If you're going from Sovtek to JJ's (or any modrn tube to another), it's usually less than if you're going to something like a Telefunken, vintage Mullard, etc. Really depends on what you're going for and what the pre sounds lik...

I've had a lot of people try various tubes in these preamps and the best feedback so far has been for vintage 12AT7 and 6072 tubes (various brands; Telefunken, RCA, Mullard, etc). It seem that this middle-of-the-road gain level is getting the best feedback (over using higher gain tubes like 12AX7 or...

Are you doing this analong set-up for functional purposes or are you after the "analong sound"? The reason I ask is that the sonic benefits of analog gear usually don't happen in low-end mixers. Those cheap mixers usually just muck up the sound, IMO. If you are just doing it because you prefer hands...

Chandler POWER SUPPLY. PSU-1 for Germanium Pre, Comp, Tone

Hi, this is the POWER SUPPLY for Chandler gear including the Germanium Preamp/DI, Compressor, Tone Control, etc. Powers two units. Perfect condition, very low hours (maybe 30), in original box. Works perfectly. I sold my preamp to someone who already had a PSU so this one is being sold separately. $...

SOLD- Orange "Tiny Terror" amp head. Tube upgrade

SOLD Hi, I have a like-new Tiny Terror that has sat safely in the original gig bag for most of it's life. I only used it for less than an hour to check out some different tubes. It sounds really good with the stock tubes and gorgeous with some NOS Mullards, etc. If you'd like to buy some NOS tubes ...

It's not always the outlet. Often, it's just the proximity to other things which cause interference. I'm always fussing with things like this, not only with amps but with rack gear (especially vintage stuff). Some of the big-transformers cause interference and some pieces love picking it up. Even wi...

I don't have that mic but I've re-tubed many, many mics. if you send detailed pics of the mic to ProAudioTubes@aol.com, I'm sure I can give you instructions as to how to open it up and replace the tube.
