Interesting. I've tried the googles but couldn't find anything about pro apps utilizing the graphics card, but the Radeon (upgraded card) has it's own RAM and the NVIDIA shares with the system RAM, so that could be it?

Is there any reason I would need the faster graphics card (for an extra $300) on a 21.5" iMac?

It would be primarily for running Logic, a little Reason and Protools (and then watching the odd movie). I don't care about the bigger hard drive.

Logic Express. I grew up with ProTools and transitioned fairly easily to Logic Pro (which includes a bunch of features that it doesn't sound like you'd use). It's $200, sounds good and works fine.
