Great thread! I'll have to nod to many of the titans that have been mentioned like Floyd, Zep, Stones and what have you. Here are a couple that I love for one reason or many: In the Wee Small Hours- Frank Sinatra. Sweet mother, if I could get a vocal mic to sound that warm and delicious and PRESENT ...

Sonar X1. Anyone else upgrade?

So I upgraded to Sonar X1 from Sonar 8 Producer. I was dubious at first, but I am coming around to the new layout. This is the only software I've used, so I have nothing to compare it to. I like the fact that nearly everything you need can be accessed from a single view without toggling between scre...

Great idea for a site. Just registered.

If you need some advice about creative commons, I have some experience with it, but my friend is totally dialed up with the ins and outs. PM me if you want more info.

Just amazing. I know the OP was interested in the actual recording of the actors and watching that I think we can learn a great deal. It's obvious that the actors have an understanding of placement in the environment. I think once a mic has been set a HUGE amount of things are out of your control as...

Here's a link to some mounts similar to those I used in a hospital install. It allows the screen to be put flush on the wall, or articulate out up to 27". Swivels and pivots up and down as well. That way you could put it against the wall when you're listening and out when you're watching. Just a tho...

My wife got her master's degree in old radio topics, so I've been exposed to radio dramas galore. Here is a really cool video that shows a lot of the techniques used for sound effects. Just watch the actors and the way they use movement and distance from the mic to create a convincing illusion. Amaz...

Sorry, I looked at the photos more closely and realized you were not using track lighting. You could mount track to the poles, I suppose.

I hate to say it, but a circuit loaded with fluorescent lights, especially CFL's is bound to hum. I've seen standard fluorescent fixtures used in studio applications, but they had remote ballasts. Lights in the studio and ballasts in the hallway. If you're worried about heat, try downsizing the watt...

I actually really like the bass sound. The organ was a nice touch and I agree it could be brought up a touch. This is the type of mixing that I strive for: making a reasonably quiet song sound full without being loud. Really nice job. Reminded me a bit of Into The Mystic. Which, let's face it, is a ...

Nick's right. Seems like the drums need a bit more depth to them. It's a cool song that could have a neat feel to it. Just having drums in my left ear was distracting.

Kind of reminded me of a fresh take on 1990's Manchester vibe.

Nakamichi Dragon CT turntable question

A friend of mine has just acquired a Nak Dragon CT turntable. This turntable came with a fluid dampened tone arm that is dropping a bit fast. He's had these types of tone arms in the past and has used baby oil to top off the fluid. The problem with the Dragon is that there isn't an obvious spot to d...
