System grounding is done at the panel. The panel neutral is connected to the water main (usually) and then bonded to the enclosure and ground bus. Open up the panel and verify that the neutral is in fact bonded (usually a screw through the neutral bus to the enclosure). Then make sure that there is ...

No, I had not seen that. Thanks so much for the link! Nice explanation of the process without making it seem too daunting. I'm going to try and take another stab at this and report back. Thanks again for the responses!

Aquaman, no it not too 101. I appreciate your clarifying the difference between MIDI notes and sounds. I am able to see the holes in the piano roll, the problem I'm having is hearing them as the drum sounds I want. I'm going to get back into this tonight. My kids are screaming now. Can you hear them?

What I'd love to do is sit down with someone who has done this and walk through it. I've watched a number of videos on the web about this subject. This is really the only proof I have that you can indeed get the sounds I want out of the computer. Part of the problem with the videos I've seen is that...

MIDI tutorial

Hey all! I'm looking for some tutorials on how to incorporate MIDI into my recording setup. I have never done any MIDI recording so I really need to go 101 on this. Right now, I'm trying to use an old Yamaha drum pad to achieve some of the sounds I have in Sonar. I can see that Sonar is recording th...

If the session is in a room with a door, you could easily wire up door contacts that go to a control relay that energizes a light. Inexpesive components and easy to assemble.

I would not be surprised. Have someone check it out for sure. If everything is OK in your panel AND the meter socket, then contact your utility and tell them you think you have a loose neutral. They will be out in no time. Keep me posted.

The dimming is a common problem associated with high resistive loads (electric heat for example) and motor loads (air conditioner, etc.). Try and isolate what is coming on when the problem in the light bulb occurs. It may be as simple as your furnace motor, or your hot water tank (if you have electr...

Actually, that entire album is pretty good. The lead singer (name escapes me) started another band called Burton Brothers (sp?) The single was pretty good but I never heard the rest of the album. Anyone else hear it?

Oh my goodness. I can't believe I just watched a Slade video. That Motorhead puppets bit was next-level as well. Don't know how many have seen this, but here's another good one (not in a horrible ironic way, but an amazing performance kind of way)

I am not going to pretend I can offer great advice on playing the drums since I am not very good. I CAN offer this piece of adivce: As long as you enjoy it and are having fun doing it, keep at it. I was a classically trained pianist for about nine years and after about half of that I hated it. My pa...

I think I have found the problem. When I plug the headphones directly into the MOTU unit, the panning is correct. My setup has headphone distribution via a small stereo amp. This is what I had the phones plugged into Thanks again for the input. Lesson learned.

Is it in mono? I recorded the track in mono using the left channel on the MOTU. In addition, I went into CueMix and hard panned the input. The only effect I have on it is a VST (Guitar Rig). I'll have to check if it is a stereo out. Should I have recorded it in stereo using the left channel hard pa...

noob question about panning in Sonar

I'll start by saying that I'm a newbie and I've combed the archives for this answer. What I want to do is hear one instrument in one ear. I've tried using the different stereo laws and recording with left or right pegged, but every time I hear it, it's in both sides of the headphones. The output is ...
