It's not just here; I've noticed over on groupdiy that many of the more knowledgeable posters have left, and r/e/p fell apart fairly completely.

Kind of wonder if this is happening also on computer-music-oriented boards. Do people still care about recording with microphones?

I guess I just wonder whether a few tens of pF really matter on a 10 foot run. Going across the building, sure.

Try it and compare for yourself. Everyone else that tries it prefers it. I've been playing loud music for long enough (not that long, even!) to know that my ears are suspect...would love to hear about it if there is a measurable, quantifiable difference (not trying to be snarky or challenge you, ju...

I don't think you'd be able to notice any effect, even with 600ohm outputs. But, it's not hard to calculate if you can find a specification for the cable's capacitance.

Wait, what? Degaussing removes a magnetic field, not a static electric one. Are you saying that vinyl and wax can be magnetized??

experiences with aardvark mastering or brooklyn phono?

Anyone have experiences they'd be willing to share with Aardvark for lacquer cutting or Brooklyn Phono for vinyl pressing? I'm looking to do a small run of records, and this seems like the most likely way.

Thanks!

A friend linked to this article - very nice. It's wonderful to see a little information on those particular recordings. "Last Kind Words Blues" made a big impression on me when I first heard it some years ago. It's the blues at their strangest and spookiest...

smd really isn't too bad! get a decent magnifier lamp, some solder wick and a decent pair of tweezers and it's easy enough. lots of good, quick videos on youtube about soldering smd parts. i'm skeptical that replacing opamps does much, assuming things were designed well in the first place, but you h...

What is tying the rails? Improved decoupling?

Once I get my 2i2, I'll open it up and see what opamps it uses. 4580s would be kind of perverse at this point.

Sure, not a problem at all, and certainly no offense taken. I went ahead and ordered a 2i2 - the price seems right. I'll report back once I get it! Are you sure the modded converters would sound better? I know I'm a cynic, but I am not at all convinced my ears are good enough to hear much difference...
