Re: Impedance matching
Hmm... I think the safest, most cost-effective solution is going to involve mic'ing the cabinet. I think I understand the direction you're pointing to with this, though--you want to use a resistor as a power soak, and then, instead of running the output of the power soak into the 8-ohm load, you wan...

Re: Impedance matching
Should I just put a resistor on the head's extension output to match the input impedance of the power amp? I'm not 100% sure that I understand the question--are you wanting to run out of the 8-ohm output into another power amp? If so, the answer is no--because you're dealing with more than just imp...

Re: Black Lion Audio Stiuation Update.
Hey everybody-- I just wanted to let you know that I haven't disappeared. The last couple of months have been a time of upheaval, family tradgedy, and personal loss. I want to apologize publicly for being unable to maintain my site during that time, and I'm currently working to fill the fifty or so ...

Re: Repairing mic-pre popping
I assume that only some of the channels are popping, correct? I'm also guessing it uses a discrete input stage, followed by 5532's or TL074's Off the top of my head, I can think of three things that would cause your mic preamp to pop. The simplest thing is, of course, dirty or intermittent gain pots...

Re: was this a waste of money?
You got a very good deal IMO. The Bogen stuff is actually pretty good--transformer coupling, quality film capacitors, etc. I just sold a Bogen 4 channel solid state mic preamp with EQ and compressor on Ebay last week--it had transformer coupled inputs on each mic preamp, discrete circuitry, and indu...

I can think of a few people who might be in the "extinction" corner. Pol Pot, Stalin, and Hitler just to name a few.

Re: Alright... which one of you is selling the Neve?
Yeah, they took it down. Apparently, Ebay has some "rule" about not selling human waste. Jeez, who knew? You may not be aware of this, but eBay does not permit human body parts to be listed on our site. Examples of prohibited items include, but are not limited to: organs, bone, blood, waste, sperm, ...

Re: An open letter to gear manufacturers from an end user.
I've wanted to tell manufacturers to stop lying about their products--I've seen many instances where a manufacturer will claim that their product has x or y type of circuitry, and it's totally untrue!
I'm looking at you, Focusrite, Joe Meek, and Behringer.

Re: Casket Lottery "Choose Bronze" drum recording.
Anyone out there have any idea how it was done? I just realized that you asked a question that I might be able to answer... When I worked with Ed, the way we would get drum sounds had a lot to do with the room, definitely. I think the routine I would generally follow (he may have changed this a bit...

Re: Casket Lottery "Choose Bronze" drum recording.
I think it's great how many people there are out there that have an admiration for Ed's work, but I always wonder why there aren't more. I interned under him in the mid 90's, and had the privilege of learning such a wealth of information from him, not to mention being able to count him as a friend. ...

Re: AKM chips and AD converters
That AKM stuff isn't so bad. They make some great converters and some so-so ones, but if you've got a good front end on them, they're very useable. The old Roland VS880 used a mid-grade 20-bit AKM converter--a few years back I designed a quick-and-dirty mod for the 880's preamp and buffer stages, an...

Re: using a multimeter
That's the capacitor info I was going to post, thanks for finding it--I was feeling too lazy to google the info. You can use either Vishay or Clarostat--I usually use Clarostat, but the Vishays are very good too. Also, I've experimented with dropping the values of R4/R5 (I think those are the ref #'...

Re: using a multimeter
I don't really know much about the 202, so I can't tell you whether different values of pots would help. The best way to tell the value of the pot is to measure it--turn the pot all the way in one direction and measure the resistance between the wiper (middle terminal) and the input or output termin...

Re: New Donovan record!!!
He was interviewed on NPR Monday, on Fresh Air. I'm planning on picking up the album because I was very impressed with his music and playing. He seems pretty weird, though. Now I understand the the musical score from movie Brother Sun, Sister Moon a little better.
