You could not possibly go wrong with an AT-4033, 4047, or 4050. They are all good mics that would still prove useful even if you eventually ended up with a locker full of amazing mics. I'm not sure if you could snag a 4060 on the used market within your stated budget. The Mojave stuff is also excell...

The drumbrella thing is amazing. One was installed at Jingletown Recording early this year.

I'm all for carving away stuff you don't need, but keep in mind an E1 is right around 41 Hz so I'd be mindful of not destroying the fundamental if the bassist is playing stuff down there. This is true, but it's difficult for our brains to recognize pitches this low. It's also tough to localize thes...

Here are some items left over from our studio garage sale this weekend. Cash is king, local pick up in San Francisco is totally rad, we can do credit cards by phone, Dwolla, or the dreaded Paypal (but you'll have to pay the paypal fees). Respond to the thread or PM me with any questions. Thanks! Uni...

I went to CRAS. If you're dead set on going to a recording school, I think CRAS is probably among the better choices primarily due to cost. I know people who went to Full Sail, SAE, and Expression. The Full Sail and Expression people are up to their eyeballs in debt and two of the three SAE folks I'...

Don't know what the prices are like but I know they offer the option of having your rehearsal recorded so you can take a CD home and listen. Probably not very "cool" but this is only like a 10 minute drive from downtown Berkel...

Best record of 2011 for me is Young Widows "In And Out Of Youth And Lightness"

That Wild Flag record is fun too as is Helms Alee's album. And I thoroughly enjoyed that Feist record.

She will probably want to get some training before diving in--There are most likely VO workshops in your city. It's not enough to just have a cool voice (well, sometimes it is but not for a long career). There's definitely a skill set that needs to at least be somewhat in place. Otherwise, even if ...
