+1 al the above. If you have already kinked some of your cables with inappropriate wrapping techniques, some stay kinked and never recover. Good thick neoprene cable wraps beautifully and uncoils in a most pleasing manner too. With the exception of installation cable, buying thicker always makes lif...

You sing into one of them, not both. I'm sure a little bit gets into the other mic, but not so much that it doesn't work. This is getting a long way from the topic, like whole galaxies away... Phase cancellation needs two signals of equal amplitude to fully cancel. If there was any truth in your id...

Video you say. Do you know the people in control at the video post prod end ? I've worked with some video types who leave brickwalls and maximizer plugs over all music audio all of the time, no matter where it came from. To be honest, hi fidelity audio mastering doesn't usually get much of a look in...

Have you checked out the Accutronics schematics page? Not sure about your idea behind the HPF, if its to remove unwanted lows then I'd opt for a capacitor/inductor job.

anyone else out there had any simpler ideas?

...call me crazy, but you could always use the compressor in Logic and assign a side chain channel, in the side chain box.

+1. If the drive is a standard issue and is the only fault, you could probably find one on the bay for peanuts.

A boutique mod on a faulty item ? With both of those, I'd want to be 100% sure on the nature of the fault. On the general theme of mods, some basic audio path upgrades such as re-capping may offer rewards, but I'd aslo keep in mind that many manufacturers have successfully made their kit as good as ...

I'd need to check the details on my mod, but I ended up with a 2w/5w toggle switch. The 2w mode is quiet enough with slightly less top than 5w, which can often be a good thing.

I've worked on some sessions in a studio that had vintage Altec monitors installed, the rest of the studio was spectacularly equipped with kit from the fifties to late seventies, with most sessions eventually tracking to Pro Tools. Anyway, I knew the material well but the Altecs had me absolutely lo...

I've had an identical issue with MOTUs, no problem when using just one but tiny moments (actually 0db) of static when the DAW was running both, even with no audio playing. I too thought clocks and went through all sync permutations with no obvious solution. I seem to have solved this problem without...

Honestly, I can't advance the theory much more than my subjective feelings when listening, but lets try to get away from the soundblaster theme, that was an extreme example and they were indeed a pile of crap. Scum, I do have a spring reverb on a DAW send but there are also a couple of Lexicons and ...

A theory, and perhaps poorly developed. It could be that summing and processor algorithms, or even factors yet to be discovered play the greater part. All I can say for sure is that my subjective response to any kind of spatial processing always favours OTB. The idea for my theory was that while mul...

Similar theme with different kit. I was having the exactly the same problem with a Vox Tonelab, I only used it for quick and quiet guitar tracking, and was reasonably happy with the sound. Then that harsh breakup started to drive me mad, and when I swapped the stock 12AX7 for an 12AU7 it improved no...
