wood rack rails
most of my racks are all wood-helps a bunch with grounding problems. all the rails are 1x2s-painted-they mostly disapear behind the rack ears. over the years they have gotten a little chewed up-never drilled pilot holes, but nice thing about wood is that it's almost endlessly fixable.-ben.

apple referb
i bought a 1.8 single g5 referb. no go from day one. i think perhaps a power supply issue. they replaced almost everything else and it still didn't work right. a bunch of runaround. they eventually took it back. may be isolated case. i put out the extra cash to get a new dual 2.o and have had no pro...

Re: My oldest client has betrayed me by trying to record at
I haven't read the whole thread, but wanna chime in. I've been recording for cash for 11 years now and the short session is probably more of a norm for me than full booked weeks. i rarely do sessions over 5 hrs at a time. My studio building is next to my house and everything takes 5 min to turn on a...

Re: Backup/Archiving Strategies
i keep everything on two internal hds and one external firewire hd at all times. i backup to the 2nd internal drive every break in the session, and the firewire at the end of each day. when a project is finished it goes onto external firewire drives i keep seperate for long term backup-written once ...

Re: UREI 7110
on the fastest attack it is quick-totally squash any transients-it has a nice grainy distorted sound if you overload it's input. i use it to level out vocals when i want that no dynamics sound. can make it pump easy on drum oheads. i'd say $200 is a fair price. it is a nice flavor to have.

Re: this may seem stupid (di box question)...
i'll second the jensen transformer di. i made two a year ago and they sound great for a passive box. di's in general are just another flavor. sometimes the way a bass or keyboard sounds will just not sit right in the mix through whatever amps one has available. sometimes the right di box will supply...

i use ultraphones from gk music. there was a review in a tape-op a while ago. bands really like them. have had very little probs with headphone mixes since i got them. kinda pricy, but for me well worth it.
