Laying off the compression on background elements will also help. If you think about a sound happening at a distance it's natural that you won't be able to hear every detail the way you would if the sound source was right in front of you. I would politely disagree. It's all in how you use compressi...

I can't believe everyone missed out on such a salient point as statutory licensing... If the songs are good enough, wait until the album is finished and published, then re-record the songs with the singer/band of your choice, pay the man who wrote it his due, and get rich and famous. If the songs ar...

An intern whose job depended on it. Cleanest studio ever. Just watch that they don't clean too much. Some gear is best left alone.

Otherwise, damp cloth and paintbrush when needed for the tiny spaces. Regular vacuuming keeps most of it off the gear anyways.

If there are to be overdubs later on, try to keep the piano / vocal mics setup EXACTLY the same throughout the recording process. This means once you have that setup, you leave it, and use other mics for the overdubs. If...

Even recently (relatively) the Beatles stopped touring because they couldn't even hear themselves on stage....

If you are in the center of a hypothetical arena and the band is playing right in front of you then the snare is not in the center, it is to the right, and the kick is right in the center (like it usually is in a mix), but some, like yourself, recommend panning the snare in the center like the kick...
