I used to get Jeff and Joel confused by virtue of similar names, etc., but now I know the distinct difference(s).
But that's what makes our lil posse rock, no?

Re: rewiring an xlr cable to 1/4"
Might have to ride the 30 to GC for that connector. My advice, someone else will handle the pinout for sure;)

Re: Control voltage (CV) for older synths--help?
I dont have the unit in front of me, but there are two pieces, the sound module and the pedals. They are connected by a multi-pin cable (4 or 5 pins, can't remember) and I don't remember any additional controls or jacks on the pedal section. Could be wrong, it's been a while since they've seen much ...

Control voltage (CV) for older synths--help?
I have a Moog Taurus 2 that is the two-piece style, and supposedly you can use the pedals to control other synths, as well as use another keyboard to control the sound module.
Does anyone have experience with this? What do I need to do? Do you use a standard MIDI cable? Thanks. . .

Re: Need Sound Card advice
I like the looks of that Quattro, based on your evident budget. A little room to grow is never a bad thing. M-Audio does a great job of offering lots of bang-for-the buck in converters. I used to use a Delta 1010 that took me a long way, and we still use an Audiophile 2496 out for demoing that is pr...

Re: What's up with Echoplexes?
Man, I didn't know Brian Setzer did the Space Echo-->Bassman thing. We stumbled onto that a couple years ago (by virtue of not being able to afford a line selector at the time) and it is a great sound.

Re: professionals recording practice amps?
I've definitely found that to be true in practice, and read that many times as well. My preferred amp trio is a Fender Pro Junior, a Rivera 30-12, and a Traynor Guitar Mate Reverb. All 1x10 or 1x12, all under 30W. You can get amazingly huge tones to tape. Also, the universally recommended Zvex SHO o...

Re: Monitor switching boxes?
Yeah, this box will support 3 sets of speakers and apparently can engage all 3 at once (which seems kinda ridiculous). I would not use more than one at a time, but it sounds like this circuit design will alter sound quality. I'll try to check it out despite my noob sensibilities.

Monitor switching boxes?
Is there any technical disadvantage to using a monitor switching box, the kind that goes post-amp, pre-speakers in the signal chain? I picked up an AB systems monitor switcher in a package deal and won't have a chance to try it for a few days, but I'm wondering if it's going to (a) affect sound qual...

Re: Budgeting: Real Studio vs DAW
People that I identify with most in this biz are the ones who still make music for the listener, not for self-gratuity. There are individuals that fit this criteria in all musical genres and tax brackets. As an amateur woodworker from time to time, I love to marvel over craftsmanship I could never h...

Re: Direct
More preamps should include DI options. The direct ins on my Langevin DVC have been a godsend; they sound great and get used all the time.
For bass and synths I also use a Demeter preamp--it's a geat bass DI.

Re: Ways to ship large-ish console?
I bought Alex's (aurelialuz) Trident VFM and can attest that he packed that thing incredibly. Pretty awesome 2x4 and plywood crate, with foam and blankets inside. . .still at my buddy's warehouse in case I need it again.
Amtrak was right on, too, really easy pickup.
