Re: Questions RE: starting a label
I would definitely form an LLC. In NC it costs about 150 bucks and a few hours of paperwork pushing--pretty cheap insurance in case something unforseeable happens.

Re: Do you like your monitors?
I went out on a limb and bought a set of B&W 601s and I love em. Over many other options, including the usual cast of characters and some others cause I like to be different.
Highly recommended.

Chris is right on with respect to Distressor distortion; I do this all the time as well.

Re: Mackie HR824. . . the next NS-10?
Ha. I must admit to baiting you on the Albini comment my friend. Bobby, my lame understanding of the NS-10 phenomenon is that record execs were at some point given incentive to buy NS-10s for their finished product listening environment/office/home/etc. So much so, that engineers began using the mon...

Re: Mackie HR824. . . the next NS-10?
Additionally, I wonder if there's anyone in the industry with the prime moving power to proclaim a standard as such. Whether Bob shoulda been that guy, well, that's another thread.
Don't you dare say Albini, heh heh.

Re: Mackie HR824. . . the next NS-10?
I agree. But I'm not talking sonically at all--they're definitely night and day. I'm talking about market saturation. It seems that the circumstances that boosted the NS-10 could never happen again.
I'm just wondering if a low-cost industry standard will come around again anytime soon.

Re: 1:1 compression why?
Great electronics, like the Distressor or 1176, sound amazing and color the sounds in neat ways. Don't try this with your Composer or 160A, folks. My 2 cents for the day is that really shitty electronics can sound amazing and color the sounds in neat ways as well. I've had equally rocking results f...

Mackie HR824. . . the next NS-10?
I hope this is not opening a can of worms, but. . . I'm perfectly happy tracking and mixing my own projects on my nearfield of choice, B&W hifi speakers into a Hafler amp. But as I increasing share my space with other engineers/producers/musicians, I see that a second set of universally accepted mon...

Re: Favorite bass guitar
Yep. I almost always record my Stingray right into the outboard pre. Sometimes I use a bass pre as well for the nice EQ, but damn if it doesn't sit right where I want it direct. It's funny though, a good bass player friend won't touch it for his jazz bass/jerry jones/Hagstrom styles. And that's cool...

1/4" TRS vs TT patchbays?
I'm renovating a home studio and moving toward a soldered-patchbay solution. What is the practical advantage of a TT solution over TRS?

Re: Favorite bass guitar
Stingray with Thomastik flats and a Bartolini. Kinda weird I know, but this is the one that gets played. Maybe just cause it's orange.
