Wow, this is a month old. Have you discovered the problem or are you still struggling? The tensioner is quite likely your problem. Do you have a manual? If not, I'll be happy to guide you through the process.

I got away from tape for about ten years via natural progression. One day a dude comes up to the studio and tells me he has a 388 that 'don't work' and says he'll just let me have it. I haul the behemoth home and have it running by the next day. What the hell. I hook it up to my rack, thread an old ...

You mentioned a spec analyser but I'd completely roundcan that idea, however, Lee, it brings to mind a question: are you guilty of mixing with your eyes? I ask because it's a nasty habit that is easy to cultivate. I go against the generally accepted rule and mix as I record because I usually hear th...

Note to Utah Blues: This guy has parts galore but perhaps not everything that you may need, still, worth a shot!

Damn it. I wish I'd gotten in on this one earlier. I copped a pair of these back in '96 while working at a music store. Some guy came in with them and I gave him $20. for the both and the plastic desk stands and the square clips. BeyerD built those things back in the 70s. Here's the GOOD news: Those...

I concur with everyone else. I was all up in this article from the beginning. I've read countless interviews in countless magazines but this one had to be the most brutal and honest of them all. Even though much of the discussion revolved around Bob himself, it never seemed like one of those Keith R...

Ah! Of course! I stand clarified. That's the primary problem with having to transfer two tracks at a time to those digital machines. I encountered the same problem and devised a way to overcome that sort of nightmare, although most producers would frown on my approach: I record the backing instrumen...

"Frampton Comes Alive" was pretty damned good. The ambient mics put you dead center of the stage. I listened to it through headphones a couple of months ago. The depth was nuts, and we're talking '76.. when most live stuff pretty much sucked. I don't even like the album that much, but the recording ...

Are you referring to the old Tascam 388 Studio 8 1/4" tape deck? I use one regularly and use the XLR stereo outs into a master disc burner. If you record hot enough, your signal should be plenty hot enough.
