Re: The end of Garageband.com
Chris (Subatomic...) makes some really good points. Just to bring it back to what I was pointing to, it is that "entitlement" attitude. We can argue about _where_ it came from, but it's hard to argue that it's not there. Regarding the future of social networking and the convergence with music market...

Re: The end of Garageband.com
I'm not sure about the political, commercial, or sociological implications, I just know that it is so, has been for quite awhile, and it was particularly apparent at Garageband.com (the antipathy towards objective honesty)... Some weird convergence of "I'm OK/You're OK" political-correctness meeting...

Re: Ace Tone: Rhythm Ace (Roland)
Hey James, Sorry, I don't know anything about it (other than seeing one at a wedding reception back in, I dunno, 1980?), but a quick web-search brought-up these links (see below). You might be able to contact someone that does know the unit, as a couple of these sights (including the YouTube channel...

Re: The end of Garageband.com
Hey Artifex, I think that you were one of the rare ones. I'm talking about going back to 2001/2002, sometime around then; I had people wanting to fight me, and I'm not talking about scathing rip-up reviews, I'm just talking honesty regarding skills in the areas of songwriting, arranging, performance...

re: malcolm chisholm class notes
Hi,
I PM'd as well, but I guess it didn't get through. If you could e-mail me copies of the notes, I'd be mighty obliged. If the material needs to be sent via postal mail, I'd be glad to give an address and pay for postage.
Please e-mail Gregg at Gregg@MightyNoStars.com .
Thanks,
GJ

Re: The end of Garageband.com
I spent a bunch of time last night (after receiving the same e-mail) re-reading some of my old reviews...not the one's that I received, which were generally positive, but the ones that I gave, which were, at least near the beginning when I naively believed in their model and ideals, brutally honest ...

Re: Amplifier head -> four-track tape recorder?
Hi Nik, You could run your mic into your amp, with a line-matching transformer, or without (if you have a cable that has xlr on one end and 1/4" on the other), but be prepared for lots of feedback. You won't hurt the amp or mic (if you don't go crazy and crank the amp to "11"), in fact, this is how ...

Re: any good contract templates around?
>>>>3. ...audit clause...<<<< Yes, this not only allows you to audit the record company's books in regards to any royalties owed you (that is, if you are signing the kind of agreement that will provide for royalties beyond your initial fee), but it also spells-out who will do the auditing (a firm th...

Amplifier head -> four-track tape recorder?
Hey Nik, Definitely _Do Not_ do that. The outputs on the back that are marked 240W/4 Ohms are powered outs to send signal to your speaker or speakers. The numbers refer to the speaker "load" that the amp "wants to see" (needs), but this is a speaker out, _not_ a line-level out, which is what you nee...

Re: any good contract templates around?
Yes, if you're going to get a lawyer (and you should), get a music attorney; a GP or business contract lawyer will not cut it. Also, someone familiar with international, not just US law (vapour trail is in Europe). Although, I still recommend a consultation with Moses. He is the only non-lawyer that...

re: contracts...
Understood. It is helpful to know a few of the particulars that you're dealing with, though. Standard disclaimer-- I have never contracted with a major before, all my stuff has been indie. My sense is that you'll have a better chance of getting paid in this situation, but I could be wrong. Take this...

Re: Operation: Studio G Brooklyn CHAMBER
Just a crazy thought (also from a non-acoustician, and someone with a lot less experience than you at making/using live reverb chambers): Have you considered using some "outdoor" speakers? The kind they make for home audio enthusiasts to post in the backyard and leave out all year long? You mentione...

Are you asking for any points, or just an engineer's fee?
Are you producing, engineering, or both?
