Re: figure-8 mic techniques and uses?

I have a pair of 4050's and like them a lot. I have used the two as crossed figure 8's for a blumien (sp?) approach. It was a great room mic setup in an old chapel with killer natural reverb. It was for a choir and it rocked. A pair of 4050's will also work for M-S which can be cool on drums or grou...

Re: guitar cab mic???

I like an SM-7 or M-88 as alternatives to an SM-57. Also a condensor mic will do the trick for some. I have had luck with the 4050 and baby bottle for different things. The 421 and RE-20 are good as well.

Re: New Bluegrass Recording Project

My 2 cents is: Less it more and keep it clean. Bluegrass usually likes to be pure. What goes in is what comes out. Use a clean microphone preamp with your microphone choices. Your mic's then will act as your "eq" for the sounds you capture. Sounds like a fun project. If you are interested in some aw...

Re: Mojave Audio's Mod Kit

I have a modified 2001 and I love it! It was a fun project and the mic has a different sound than others in my collection. I have two kits waiting to be setup with a pair of MXL-603's. I just have not had time to get to them yet. I hope that helps.

Re: Mic pre advice!! A truly novel topic!!

For acoustic music and the instruments that you work with... I would have to say look at the top supper clean mic preamps: Millennia Media HV-3, Great River MP-2, or the Grace 201. Each are great, supper clean micpre's. They are great for acoustic insturments. What goes in is what comes out. They sh...

Can anyone tell me, regarding the sonic characteristic, how the V69 stands up against the MXL-2001 with the Royer/TapeOp modification?

Re: Anyone have any info on the yamaha PM series desks?

I am not sure about the difference between the two. I have only heard the PM series. I have a PM700 and PM2000. The PM700 is limited in features but has a good sound overall. The 700 does use different components than the PM2000. The 700 has a similar sound (which is great if you are on a budget) bu...

Re: Home Studio Recording as a career. Is it doable?

I have a side business with my project studio but I still need a day job to support the family and my gear lust. I think that it can be done.

Re: Mic'ing a Bass with a Condensor

I have been using an RE-20 with good results. I have not tried a condensor myself but I have heard that the AT 4047 works well for bass. Has anyone tried it?

Re: AT4050 vs. C4000B vs. NT2

I can't comment on the C4000B but between the AT4050 and the NT-2... I would pick the 4050. It has more to offer (three pickup patterns) and what goes in is what comes out. I have two of them and they sound good. I had the NT-2 and it worked very well on some male voices but it is not as flexable as...

Re: Any "affordable" monitors with good low end?

So how many of you use a seperate subwoofer to help in monitoring the low end of your mixes? Do you find that it helps or does it hide frequency problems once the mix is in the real world? If you use a subwoofer is it a generic (cost effective) consumer audio product or is it a true professional pro...

Re: Headphone Amps

The Rane HR-4 and HR-6? Is the HR-4 in the Mojo line and the HR-6 is the standard headphone amp that has been out for quite a while? Does the HR-4 have as much gain as the 6? Do they have any major differences?
