Re: recording into Soundforge -- what am i doing wrong?
maybe this is a strange question, but why are you tracking into sound forge instead of acid? it supports recording two-channels along with your track. i suspect you are recording a part, but then when you load it into acid the information about tempo and speed isn't present so acid is just guessing ...

Re: Reason or Live to Protools files
Anyone know how to get Reason files or Ableton's Live files into Protools? I was searching the Ableton site to see if they time stamp the audio files after rendering to disk but I couldn't find any info on it. Anyone....Bulher? :?: i'm pretty sure reason writes standard .wav files, at least on the ...

Re: Apple Spec Leak
Why in the world would you ever need 8 gigs of ram, that's just laughable to me. And they start at $1999. 8 gigs = never need to hit the disk even for a full mix. crazy track counts! i frequently use up 1 gig and start hitting virtual memory when i'm doing 3d work..and in apps like acid it's nice w...

Re: anyone have a hyperthreading p4 yet?
The problem with just recording two more tracks into my sequencer (which I can do) is that I track at 24/48 but want to mix down to 16/44.1 to avoid any resampling or dithering. hmm, it's not really clear what you mean by 'the apps don't run at the same time' - like, do they open but just refuse to...

Re: GBA: Worse than crack, or just me?
while we are talking games, i am currently playing Freedom Force, which is a great silver age superhero 3-d realtime 3rd person fighting game. it is based on the old role playing game "champions" if anyone cares.. freedom force kicks ass!!! i had no idea it was based on 'champions'...i used to play...

Re: anyone have a hyperthreading p4 yet?
hmm, you should be able to do that even without hyperthreading. the hyperthreading stuff might speed things up a bit, but when you're just recording a stereo signal, there isn't much processing going on, it's basically just grabbing data from the soundcard and sticking it on the disk. the tricky par...

Re: simulating group vocals
generally the best results i've had with this involved using lots of harmonies and differetn voice leading, with very few doubled parts. also, i know it's heresy but a couple tracks with autotune on 'em, buried in the mix will disappear and sound natural, but create a nice weird tonal synthetic refe...

Re: what is the future of recording?
interaction can not be artistically duplicated by computers, midi, or any technology for that matter no matter how advanced the software nor how 'realistic' the samples. Sequenced beats, droning endlessly, unchanging and heartless, will hopefully become an oddity that is not taken seriously in futu...

Re: Compessor Plug-ins, any preferences?
i don't know if protools has a vst wrapper but the digitalfishphones plugins sound excellent and are free. dominion is a cool, weird dynamics altering thing that does a nice saturation and also lets you control the compression by controlling amount of attack and release along with time. an unusual i...

Re: Who knows how record labels work??
electro - maybe shoegazer/psych/pop - not as likely the only way to find out is talk to more labels or DIY. for electronic/dancey stuff there are a lot of labels that will put out 12" without tour support or anything. it seems significantly less common for pop or guitar stuff. probably because elect...

Re: poll: what do you do?
very neat! i've always been interested in designing video games, but that was particularly back in the old school days. what kind of stuff do you do exactly? character/art design? gameplay design? or do you work with the actual programming? which system do you like to work with more, ps2 or xbox? :...
