It's definitely a 60hz-type hum. Only happens when the guitar is plugged in and turned up, so it might very well be noisy pickups - they're from a 70's Les Paul.

Troubleshooting a Noisy Guitar Amp

A Fender Blues Jr., to be specific. Trying to do some home recording, and It's driving me crazy - great tone, but tones of background noise. Guitar has humbucking pickups. What are the potential causes, and how can I test each? Bad tube? fuzzy power lines in the room? (it is track lighting on rheost...

Thanks for the input, everyone! I just happened on a great deal on a used MXR stereo tremolo, so I went ahead and snapped it up. So far it's an odd duck, but I'm having fun with it - I'll try to post a more thorough review in a week or two.

That's a really interesting idea vvv - it's looking really tough to get a good-sounding trem for $100, and my immediate needs are for recording.

I found this nice a/b (or, rather an a/b/c/d) of 4 different pedals on youtube:

it's making me like that cusak tap-a-whirl.

No, please, stray away! I'll officially rephrase the question- What do you think is the best bang for the buck in a trem pedal?

guitar trem pedals - review?

Anyone have experience with the Pyle PPDLUT1 or JOYO JF-9 tremolo pedals? Particularly how the tone stacks up against the Boss or MXR trems? Both are inexpensive, and I'm not familiar with either brand.

Is there a chance just the knob cab is loose, and the actual pt underneath is fine? If there's a little set screw that holds the knob cap on, that would be the first thing to check. Otherwise, yeah, $60-$100 for replacing a circuit-board mounted pot doesn't sound too excessive. That's kind of a pai...

mm not really snobbery? It would cost around $100 to upgrade to nine I'm guessing, then you could save and invest in something a little more than an mbox. hey im still running PT8 with an mbox mini but dont have the time to upgrade due to work. I apologize - I thought you were dissing my rig. It's ...

Well, thanks. I do, actually, have work to do in the meantime, but I appreciate the snobbery!

Mbox 2 repair in New York

Hey everyone, I need what I believe is a simple repair on my MBox2 Pro - one of the input level control knobs is turning freely and not controlling anything. I called the digidesign authorized repair shop here in NYC, and the quoted price was much higher than I expected... can anyone recommend a goo...

Advice for developing new film scoring clients?

Hey everyone - I'm a composer and producer working out of Brooklyn, NY, and I've been lucky over the past year or so to build a solid resume of music for film - mostly non-profit mission videos and the like, with a few pro/am shorts mixed in. I'm really enjoying diving seriously in to this kind of w...

I haven't used them for synths, but I recently had an amp repaired at Main Drag in Williamsburg: http://www.maindragmusic.com/md/ and they seemed to have a competent and well-equipped electronics shop. (the amp sounds great now, btw.)
