I am kind of surprised by that price being as low as it is considering that's what it sold for in the 80s. I wonder what it will do to used prices and to new tape. For me to warrant a purchase I'd like to see them shave 20+ pounds and a few inches...and replace RCA jacks with 1/4". Being able to re...

good luck. i paid 600 for mine, and it's in near mint, but i still have to pay 175 to get it calibrated and aligned.

might want to raise your asking price.

that is AWESOME!!!!

i love mine and won't be able to afford the new one (heck i'd buy a studer 2" 16 track for that much), but hopefully the parts will become more available and heads as well, helping us users of old machines to replace/repair/maintain better :)

thanks, thats so exciting!!

cheers to a great magazine. i really appreciate the great insights and thoughts that people write about and also how different approaches and concepts are okay. it's cool to see a tube and tape article followed by a modern digital article. we can all exist and make music together. the forums have be...

im having problems recording bass with my 388. i'm using a 69 jazz with flatwounds. no matter what the level, i get a farty distored tone to notes lower than A (all played on the low E string). i've never had this problem before. can the 388 not handle the low end? i've tried using active DI, passiv...

how do you get the effects in the effect send to be printed to the tape? i tried but they only came through in remix. do i have to have them in the access loop (send/recieve) to be put on tape? or am i missing something? also, for those that record without dbx, how much are you boosting the highs on...

how far from motors should you have your unit? i have mine about 4 feet from my dishwasher, is that enough? i've noticed that when i run both at the same time, i get noise and clicks/pops in my 388, but when the dishwasher is off, the noise/clicks/pops are gone. so i'm guessing i'm alright, just don...
