Now this may not be the best odds auction considering the guy only has 3 feedback, but these guitars can be had for a lot less than a comparable Gibson.

Re: Guitars: New, used, or vintage

the faded series are most definitely made in the usa - even that little $300 melody maker with one p90. that's on my impulse buy short list if i can't find another sg like i had in high school... Well I have heard that those MM's sound good, but have you seen them up close ? The "finish" mad...

Re: Guitars: New, used, or vintage

I'll second the used Hamer USA recommendation. I think for the money, you can get a lot more guitar that way. I'd also suggest checking out used Guilds (Bluesbird, s-100, etc) for the same reason, in addition to the other suggestions above. I've also heard the Elite Epiphones are a good guitar for t...

Re: Quantegy closes its doors

They were ok, but those albums weren't great because of the sound. they were great because it was JOHNNY FUCKING CASH, recording lots of cute covers (ooh, he's singing a trent reznor song! Now he's doing Soundgarden!) THAT is why people like those albums, not because of the sound. Sound wise they a...

Re: RIP Darrel "Dimebag" Abbot

What a horrible tragedy ! What worries me even more than the actual presense of handguns in our society is the growing desensitization to violence in general. I'm sure there are a million ways to look at statistics which argue both in favour of and against regulation of guns and so on, but IMO, the ...

Re: Anyone here want to leave the country? (or lives in anot

In case anyone was actually serious about this, I heard on BCTV last night about an immigration lawyer (from Vancouver) who is sponsoring information seminars on how Americans can legally move to Canada. They will be offerred in Seattle, SF and LA.

Re: Fender Champ

I too love champs ! - Recorded my silver face vibro-champ last night with a DOD "grunge" pedal of all things and it sounded unbelievable. The combination of the champ with a pedal that has controls named "loud", "butt", "face", and "grunge"... wow. A second gtr track was recorded with an old departm...

Re: Anyone here want to leave the country? (or lives in anot

I say if you guys are inspired to go somewhere else, then by all means do it if you can. I returned to Canada right after the last election so I can hardly say otherwise. One thing that is sort of gnawing at me as I read this thread though - its not like we in Canada or elsewhere in the world are im...

Re: drums after guitar...

I do this all the time. Click, then guitar, then drums. I like to play to the arrangement of the song, not hear it in my head. Cool things come out of it too because I end up playing to the syncopations in the strumming and stuff. That often tells me what a rhythm for the bass part should be. Maybe ...

Actually, Geddy does sing that one. And doesn't it have the big rock crescendo where the drums come in to finish the song ?

And how about Cygnus X1 while we're at it...

Re: I need arrangement advice. Acoustic demo.

Nice song. Maybe you could think of it as more of a verse/refrain type form than a verse/chorus type form, especially since the verses are fairly long. Then the part you are calling the chorus now could be more like a bridge. I know lyrically that could change things a bit (or not). That said, it so...

Re: Homemade Lofi Drums, any ideas?

I've used a big plastic peanut butter pot for a floor tom/bass drum/riding thing before (the kind that natural food stores get the bulk stuff in). Usually I'd use that with a snare drum on the floor and a shoe under one side of it - brushes or rakes for sticks. Its not too loud but records well, par...

Re: looking for a tight and full snare sound, having trouble

Also, I've found that sometimes a less than well tuned drum kind of reveals itself when under the microphone. I know it can be a pain if you're not a drummer, but new heads well seated and tuned, or even just a quick retuning, can make a big difference in the way a drum sounds. A buddy commented to...
