Every band should have one!

Why am I excited? I am stoked about how my little flash recorder, in my case the Zoom H2, is helping my band. A few practices ago, we played one of our new songs quite well, and someone commented "I wish we had a recording of that". We had brought gear to record a practice before--a few mics, a Mack...

Re: Ever heard a recording and thought it was a live band?

Our pal Tom over at Music Thing wonders: "In his book White Bicycles, Joe Boyd writes: "I have seen people enter pubs and bars where the Buena Vista Social Club CD is playing and look around for the source of the music; they seem startled to be entering a 3-dimensional acoustic space..." Is this re...

AAAAH!! This is what you must do: Go to the provided link and buy "Recording the Beatles" by Kevin Ryan and Brian Kehew!!! This huge, beautiful volume is the most exhaustive, insanely researched documentation of the gear and methods of the Fab Four sessions from a technical point of view. Tons of pi...

Paul K. and the Weathermen. They did a record called "Blue Sun".

That is a great record, totally indie all the way. Great songs, well performed, ably recorded.

Short for Potentiometers.

The knobs. Volume knob, tone knob. Actually the electronics below the knob. The things that turn.

I found one at a thrift store for $2. Best bang for the buck. It was a piece of crap, but nice reassurance to hear a mix through.

Years ago, I borrowed my buddies guitar cabinet to use for bass, as I was poor and without a proper bass amp. The cabinet was 2 x 12, I think. Anyway, it sounded good enough and all, but I ended up blowing the speakers as I yearned for more volume, wanting the rig to act like a bass rig. I learned a...

Les Mystere Des Voix Bulgares any info????

Hey Guys- I'm kicking back wallowing in the greatness, the joy of the Bulgarian singers and wondering what is up with them lately, if anything. I really believe that, with the perspective of time, the Bulgarian State Radio & Television Female Choir, or whatever they are called, will go down as one o...

Listen, babe, I was minding my own business watching PBS and noticed something I thought odd about AK's singing. I noticed it with my ears. I thought that was evidence enough in audio recording circles. I shared my impressions on this board where people exchange such ideas. Some AK fans were offende...

I'm not here to argue, so I will accept that she sings freakishly in tune on her own. I think it is odd.

I don't go around looking for AT trouble, her singing just caught my ear. She is beloved by very many, so I think the Elvis rule (50,000,000 Elvis fans can't be wrong) applies-

Anyway, just suppose for a moment she isn't using Autotune - hypothetically now, if you were her chief soundguy for a night and you got to set up her entire vocal signal path for a gig, and you could be thusly convinced that she's just really good at singing in tune: Would you finally be able to en...

Aw shoot- I started this thread and have not checked on it for a while. What I heard in the AK performance was absolute pitch "perfection". I have a very good sense of pitch, as do many, and I could not ever get a micro-second of her singing that was off perfect pitch at any time. That does not occu...
