Based on a number of reports from folks I trust a lot it seems that Optidrive Control's BLER check is simply nowhere near as accurate as Plextools , Clover or Stagetech.

Things to be aware of with NS10's is where they deviate most from flat response is a big bump up at 2kHz and a relatively steep roll off starting at 80Hz. It's the 2kHz bump that makes them so good for things like judging syllable by syllable level consistency of vocal tracks - but can make them rea...

No advice, just a comment. Awesome! When do you start accepting orders for one-offs? Thanks! It will probably be a few months down the line before I accept orders as there's plenty to do to get it up and running - and after that I will want to spend some time with it getting through the big ...

my "new" record lathe - a Fairchild 523!
Holiday Greetings TapeOp'ers! So - ever since getting to cut vinyl master sides until 5 years ago at the now closed Europadisk I've been wanting to get a lathe again as I really missed getting to do this. After lurking for a few years on various systems for sale (most that were out of my budget - su...

Brooklyn mastering engineers hangout night Sat 4/17
Since I figure most of us wouldn't mind a drink after Tax Day I am organizing a "Brooklyn ME's hangout night" for: Date: this Saturday 4/17. Time: I figure 8:00pm or 9:00pm start would be good. Location: The Pencil Factory - 142 Franklin Street (at the corner of Greenpoint Ave.), Greenpoint Brooklyn...

By the way, the first ten issues would be Tape Op book Vol I, so that's up to Feral House who own it. Maybe book Vol. II could be digital. We'll see. We'd start with current issues, of course. I was reading about iPads and don't see a real use in my life at the moment. I love the iPhone while trave...

Justin - Your room looks really nice! This didn't happen to be Trevor Sadler's old space - is it? Best regards, Steve Berson Yep, Trevor built it out and still owns the building, I just rent the room and he moved out East. Cool - thought it looked familiar! I like what you've done with the room! Be...

I didn't see a wordclock on your list...most mastering facilities have mega-converters like Benchmark, etc. I know that the 002 does not have a wordclock input. I'd say the vast majority of dedicated mastering studios use the internal clock for their converters. Best regards, Steve Berson I know of...

It was a reaction to the sound of the mid to late 70's. Everyone had built really dead tracking rooms and was close mic'ing. Worked for some things and was lifeless for others. The first digital reverbs were released and all of a sudden there was a tool to allow things tracked in these dead rooms to...

Joel - I think you'll like the Burl. I had one for a day's demo and was pretty impressed with it - but I'd still like to get more time before deciding whether I wanted to get it. Anyway - first impressions were that it was indeed very clean but gave a subtle bit of a definitely euphonic coloration i...
