I just pickup up a used TL Audio C-1. I had every electrolytic audio cap in it replaced with Nichicon 'Gold' series (22) (added a polyester cap bridge to the 4 input caps), replaced the power supply caps, moved two very warm/hot power supply resistors off the PC board and replaced them with 25 watt ...

Well, the advice given was well intended but it would not have worked. Believe me, it is only wishful thinking. If you think it worked you have only realized the virtue of turning the pot a few (probably many) times to relieve the scratchiness. Nothing got cleaned by any contact cleaner. And really,...

OK, I looked at that schematic. This is, IMO, a rather rough job of introducing verb to the circuit. It is interesting to come back on the other side of the PI but still a questionable design. The 12AT7 running a 1 ohm + 10 ohm of the cathode is a mistake - there would be no gain. Probably the 1 ohm...

I'll take a look at that schematic but off the top of my head I can't imagine a 10 ohm cathode resistor shared by a 12AT7. It's too small a value. For example, on a Fender verb equipped amp you will see 2.2K. And you're right, running a straight wire here is not a great idea. However I still queston...

OK, Jim Williams is into guitar playing - I had no idea!! I like this about you, Jim. Addressing some of your comments, the first thing that catches my eye is the 15k hz number. So a typical amp speaker will reproduce 7k tops and you are hearing 15k? That is only happening through the sound board. A...

Who's talking about guitars and amps, this is studio stuff? BTW, if you heard my silver-soldered, modified to hell and back Fender 1966 Deluxe Reverb or my 2 1965 Showman heads with one of my Telecasters with the humcancelling circuits and preamps, you may change your mind, but you haven't heard th...

What is the purpose/benefit of using a Mid-Side plugin?
I am confused about this. If you have the mics, you simply use two tracks and do this, record it. But I read about plugins that do this/create this and I wonder why do this? Are these people using an omni? A cardioid? A figure 8? Any type in particular? What are they hoping to create in their mix by...

Looking at a typical ribbon mic of today, with the opposed ribbons front/back, I don't know why you couldn't simply cover the back side of the mic and eliminate the secondary ribbon. In one sense it's basically there to create a humbucking device/mic electronically. Consequently both sides don't nee...

HI. Well OK, it looks like you are moving forward. I understand that you measured the tranny but I still suggest it takes something crazy to take one of these out. And no, the 12AX7 would not do it. ....The verb would sound overdriven but it could not hurt the tranny. Well, when you have the new tra...

Well, OK, I agree with the EQ ideas and interesting about reamping, splitting the signal, etc., but I think you might want to try a very simple trick that works well, too: on mixdown run a compressor on the bass track and insert the kick into the side chain. This way you are assured of leaving space...

One more, and thanks for posting the SOS article, I hadn't seen that one. Remember that the Twin is reverse polarity when you use the reverb channel, and positive polarity when you use the normal channel - true for all the black face amps and siblings. OK, nobody mentioned this but I like to put a m...

vvv - Yeah, that was a good move on your part - good to give it a go and a good result. With the Cascade version I have, I can see that they have GLUED the ribbon at top and bottom - pretty sure - which is something that some Chinese manufacterers do for quicker assembly time. So if I ever have to d...

Hi. There's a million schematics out there to google so try this of course. The key with reverbs is whether it is like a vintage Fender amp or like a Musicman/Peavey amp - and this is all about the tank. So, if you have the tank, measure the DC resistance of both the input and the output of it. If t...

Gregg - Ha! Well maybe you think that way right now but you might surprise yourself as I did. Another thing worth passing along about ribbons is that they should be stored vertically. And yes, I have seen where somebody on a somewhat homebrew ribbon building/rebuilding web site said this was not imp...
