Stereo Bus Compressor (maybe Chameleon Labs 7720?)

Anybody got recommendations? I mix primarily out of the box, and I'm looking for something clean-sounding, mostly transparent, and versatile that I can use on my final mixes as well as the occasional "budget-mastering" job. -Below $600 new (but I'd be willing to hunt for a fancier unit at a used pri...

I bought two of these little Shure 4-channel half-rack mixers (SCM268) to use with my 424. They provide phantom power, mic and line inputs, slightly better preamps than the Tascam, and most importantly the ability to submix 4 mics to one track or even daisy chain them for up to 8 mics to one track! ...

I have the same portastudio (MKIII 424) and I've always used these tapes from this site: http://tapeworld.com/product_detail~id~133~title~SM60+Audio%20Cassettes%20High-Bias%20Type%20II~brandname~~producttype~Audio%20Cassettes%20High-Bias%20Type%20II.htm Using them in a 4-track like that means you're...

You could afford more than one set of these within your price range (if I did the ? to $ conversion right), but I've been totally happy with my M-Audio Cx8's for the 4-5 years I've had them. Big enough to not need a sub, good speakers all around, but the real handy thing about them is the 4 switches...

*If you attempt this technique for Bowie-esque effect, it is best to have a vintage Brian Eno (I think available on Amazon?) on hand to actually write the songs and run the studio, because you will be too fucked up to do it yourself. It doesn't hurt to also have a Robert Fripp on hand as well, for ...

It's been a while since I mixed in the box like that, but when all I had was Protools on my Macbook and an Mbox2, I did quite a bit of the "process as you go" kinda thing. It always turned into a mess of plugins. Now I've learned that it's easier to think about how things fit together beforehand and...

Don't know if the original poster has made up their mind yet, but I now have the MiniFooger delay and I love it. Aside from being an awesome, fun, and versatile guitar pedal, I think it's going to come in handy for mixing as well. With the mix control set to 100% wet, it can be used in a send/return...

I used to have the Boss Space Echo pedal, until I had to sell it to make rent. Most fun/versatile pedal I've ever owned. The ability to switch different combinations of the 3 repeats is really cool, and you can also switch what the expression pedal controls! It's been 4 years since I had that thing,...

The Shure Unidyne III (or probably the whole series of them) is good for this because they can be internally switched to high or low impedance, have an on/off switch (handy for live or practice), SM57-like pickup pattern, and sorta limited frequency. Another suggestion, thopugh I haven't tried it, i...

The bolt idea sounds promising. A trip to the hardware store with a disassembled mic clip could probably make this happen!

To be clear, this is for a fairly light cymbal that isn't being hit very hard, and I don't really want to buy another cymbal stand at the moment.

I used to have a cheap small subwoofer with the bass port on the front. One day I dropped a piece of paper down by it and it got sucked onto the port and started making this amazing noise as the air being pushed in and out made it come away from the hole and reattach many times per second. It was re...

Mic stand > cymbal stand

Does anybody know of a prefab adapter or DIY way of mounting a small cymbal on a standard mic stand (boom or straight)? I found plenty of options for the opposite scenario, but nothing for mounting a cymbal on a mic stand. This is for a 12" china... I wouldn't recommend trying it with anything much ...

One or two of these: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SPatchPlus/

A spool of cable

A bag of TRS connectors

Probably over $250 altogether, but the switchable normalling on the front panel is endlessly useful and you can always make more patch cables!

The Spring tank in my amp is on the fritz, and I've thought about trying to modify it to fit in a rack chassis as well as add capability for different levels and impedances... It's an Accutronics 3-spring and if someone tries this and posts pictures I will follow along and post my own!
